A little nudge from Team Jeb to remind the new and improved Romney that this race will be new in lots of ways, many of which he wont like.
Interesting timing.
David Kochel, a Republican strategist based in Iowa who worked on both of Mitt Romneys presidential campaigns, is joining Jeb Bushs political action committee as a senior strategist and is in line to serve as Mr. Bushs national campaign manager
I really believe Governor Bush is the right person for the right time, he said. He has a successful conservative record in Florida, and Id put that record up against anybody else.
This is a reflection of Governor Bushs intent, should he go forward with a campaign, to make the race focused on early states, Super Tuesday states and running governors-style races, said a senior adviser to Mr. Bush. This is not going to be a D.C.-driven, top-down structure. Thats not the Jeb Bush way.
Kochels based in Iowa, huh? One theory of Jebs 2016 strategy was that hed skip that state and focus on winning more moderate New Hampshire instead. Hard to believe hell do that now. Imagine how itd look if his new campaign manager, who knows Iowa intimately and who helped Romney nearly win it three years ago, decided that Jeb should pass because he has no chance.
But back to the timing. This splashy announcement about a key player in Romneyworld defecting to Bush just so happens to coincide with a splashy new story from the AP about lots of key players in Romneyworld defecting to Bush.
Ive got great respect for Gov. Romney, and I busted my buns for him, said Chicago investor Craig Duchossois, whose wife contributed $250,000 to a pro-Romney super PAC while he collected tens of thousands more for Romneys last campaign. But I have turned the page.
Duchossois and several of his fellow former Romney supporters plan to host Bush in Chicago next month for a fundraiser arranged by Lisa Wagner, Romneys 2012 Midwest campaign finance director. She helped raise $25 million for Romney in 2012.
Along with Wagner and Durkin, Bush has also claimed Romneys 2012 Texas finance director, Allison McIntosh, and Sondland, who helped raise millions for Romney and the super PAC that supported his candidacy
Jeb represents the different traits, that are qualifications to hold the office and those required to be elected, said Terry Graunke, co-founder of a Chicago private equity firm. He and his team appear to be much more capable of contemporary strategic policy.
That comes a day after CNN reported, per GOP sources, that Bush is raising money in the mid- to high six figures every day. And all of this comes while Romney is still weighing whether to run again or not, with a decision expected within the next two weeks. Clearly the goal of all this is to convince Mitt to decide against running after all by making it painful enough that he concludes its not worth the trouble. No one could compete with him on fundraising in 2012; Bush not only can, hes raising the bar. No one could command as many top-shelf establishment political pros as Romney 2012 could; Bush not only can, hes stealing coveted strategists right out from under Romneys nose. The goal, I think, isnt so much to push Romney out of his campaign comfort zone as it is to give him a whiff of the humiliation that might be in store if he goes through with this. If he runs and finishes with, say, eight percent of the vote, the whole complexion of his image will change from successful nominee who fell short against incumbent president to pathetic hanger-on who overstayed a welcome that wasnt all that welcoming to begin with. Bush is giving him a taste of pain now to hint that theres much more to come.
Probably wont work, though. It was Bushs aggressive attempt to line up Romney 2012 donors that apparently bruised Romneys ego and enticed him back to the edge of running again in the first place. Hell probably take Kochels hire as another affront thatll be avenged when he runs with a whole new team and wins the nomination anyway. Alas, poor Romney: He should be listening to the experts. Right, Meg?

That’s like a guy who broke up with his lesbian girlfriend and is now dating a bi-sexual gal. He’ll be getting some on the 10th of Never.
This is good news. He’s a proven loser. Jebbie should hire all Romney’s former aides.
Good.
it means job Bush will keep getting the same lousy advice that fialed Bush I, Dole, Bush II, McCain, and Romney.
And the bad news is ...
Now Romney will getting fresh advice from somebody who may make fewer mistakes.
Where do these creatures come from anyway? Last name sounds like a feminine hygiene product made in France. And wifey has 250 large to throw around? I can't even find a piss-poor woman who'll sit down and have a glass of wine with me out of a twelve dollar bottle. Jesus Christ.
If any GOP people read here. If Bush is the nominee, I will vote for the Democrat. It is better to vote for them directly rather than endure the death of a thousand cuts with you.
Yes, I mean it.
No,, seriously.
What you said. +1
Kochel is an open supporter of “gay marriage.”
Mitt Romney Strategist David Kochel Endorses Gay Marriage
January 30, 2013
David Kochel, Mitt Romneys Iowa strategist, on Monday publicly endorsed gay marriage.
Speaking at an event hosted by Iowa Republicans for Freedom, a group which supports marriage equality, Kochel argued that marriage equality was a conservative value.
Support for the freedom to marry is emerging as a mainstream position in the Republican Party, he said, according to a press release. If we are to be the party of principles and values, isnt our first obligation to the principle of freedom, and the value of individual liberty?
In comments to The Huffington Post, Kochel recalled being asked his position on the issue by a student at his sons high school graduation during the presidential campaign.
I answered the question very honestly, he said. Well, for me personally, I said, I think that rights need to be extended to all people regardless of orientation. And several of the students started nodding their heads, and began to question why so many in my party dont have this position.
In a Monday tweet, Kochel said he has supported such unions for at least 12 years.
Also joining Kochel at Mondays Des Moines event was former Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman. Mehlman came out gay in 2010, saying he wanted to become an equality advocate.
People such as Kochel can really spin the language. The argument for obligation to principle and values is superfluous in that such would deny/ignore the multitude of laws from local to National that differentiate societal values and decisions as to conduct. Apparently some people would have ‘society’ believe there are no standing principles.
Yep.
A nation that substitutes the arbitrary whims of men for the eternal laws of God and nature, is doomed.
From one demon to the next: a house divided!
So you're saying you're voting for Jeb ?
Rearranging GOP-E deck chairs.
If 2016 turns out to be Bush vs. Clinton (again!), then perhaps that would be the moment to try to convince the electorate that this is the time to reject family political dynasties and “business as usual”. I think a lot would depend on how the economy is going: If it’s in the tank, say, with U1 unemployment* back over 8% or so, then perhaps a good conservative 3rd Party Candidate could win. If the economy is weak or better, regardless of how close the whole thing is to a major implosion, then I’m afraid that probably Hillary wins.
*Regardless of who runs for the Pubs, it seems to me that the Pubs need to mount a major campaign, starting now, to show how misleading the U1 numbers are, and how bad the situation for the average worker or “wants to be a worker” is. But, the Pubs will probably fail to do that, too. Well made commercials about “the forgotten man (or woman)” would be good... Then again, the GOPe doesn’t actually care about much beyond political power & big donations, or listen to their base, so they probably won’t think of this.
Because we all remember how the left respected your brother...
Seriously, if anyone you know even slightly they support bush, have them committed for "observation", they have lost their mind.
Jumping ship... from the Titanic to the Edmund Fitzgerald...
Mr. RomneyCARE sends these folks out as double agents.
They will betray Jeb for the Bishop.
Darn. I want to see Romney, Bush and every other RINO scratching each others eyes out. Maybe a consevative can come out on top for once.
Romney and Bush made a deal at their meeting.Romney gets to be the Republican Lost Cause for 2016. Together they will manage to starve all the conservatives of campaign funds by sucking up all the large donors, mostly from the Chamber of Commerce. Their job is to prevent a Conservative getting the nomination and thus preventing a Democrat win. They will fail. Whoever the Democrats put up will win. Bushney will throw the election and the Democrats will elect the farthest left effective they have. Conservatives will stay home and gopes will get their satisfaction by smugly blaming them for the Democrat win. But if Bushney were to win we would notice no difference in the progress of the Total State except for a tad less rancor. I would prefer a Democrat win to a bushney so that there will be no confusion about just who the enemy is.
