Why Hillary 2016 Thinks She Can Expand Obama's Electoral Map
Talking Points Memo's TPM DC - In it, but not of it ^ | November 17, 2014 | Dylan Scott

The top minds in the proto-Hillary Clinton 2016 campaign infrastructure are already gaming out Electoral College scenarios. What they think they have is a candidate who could compete in a handful of traditionally red states, putting Republicans on the defensive and increasing her chances of winning the White House.

Mitch Stewart, Obama's 2012 battleground state director who is now an independent consultant advising the grassroots group Ready for Hillary, laid out the electoral math to TPM in a recent interview. Clinton will start with Obama's map, he said, and can build from there.

There are two buckets of states potentially in play. Arkansas, Indiana and Missouri comprise one bucket. The first is a somewhat unique case, given Clinton's history there, while the other two were razor-thin in 2008, but the principle is the same: Clinton has a record of appealing to white working-class voters -- especially women -- and they could be enough when paired with the Obama coalition to pull out a win.

"Where I think Secretary Clinton has more appeal than any other Democrat looking at running is that with white working-class voters, she does have a connection," Stewart said. "I think she's best positioned to open those states."(continued)

The only thing she’s capable of expanding is her pant size.

Hillary’s problem may be getting out of the primaries, just like 2008. (assuming the Chicago mob rolls out Baraq 2.0)

I suspect she’s torn between her huge ego telling her everybody loves her and some high paid consultants telling her 2008 can easily repeat.

She'll have a better chance at carrying Arkansas and some Midland states than Obama, but the African-American vote will fall off and hurt here elsewhere.

Maybe the two effects will cancel out, just as any greater popularity she has in some quarters will be offset by strong anti-Obama sentiment. The coal states are most likely gone for a long time.

Bill Clinton is looking pretty old lately. What with all the people who haven't forgiven him and the people he just doesn't inspire, his recent popularity may not be enough to put his wife in the White House.

Getting ahead of themselves. She hasn’t won the nomination yet.

his recent popularity

I'm not sure what his batting average was in fall 2014, but darn near every candidate ole BJ campaigned with lost.

There's even rumors Chels has begged mom and dad to stay home when she starts her run for office.

Must be planning on having the US map silk screened on the back of her spandex pants...

She’s fat
She’s old
Her baggage would take two semi-trailers to haul it
She’s shrill
She treats her staff like crap

Yep, perfect example of what the RATS love.

Saved the best for last:

She’s a liar

Haven’t we had enough lies over the last six years?

IMHO, we’ve had enough lies to last a lifetime.

Our country is dying because of lies. Out and out lies.

I’ve also heard her described as “every man’s first wife”.

Not to mention "America's ex-wife."

Her four years as "Madam Secretary" ended with the USA in full retreat from a world in flames.

And that will matter not at all. Eighty percent of Democrat voters cannot name the last job Hillary held, much less describe how she performed.

Which map? The 2012 map, or the 2008 map, or the 2014 map?

How many new voters who turned 21 after the 2008 election have not been subjected to the Hillary hype like the rest of us?

The 2014 midterms notwithstanding, I don’t doubt she can win in 2016. We underestimate her at our own risk.

Not PA? They tease us every four years into thinking we have a chance to carry it for the GOP and they, inevitably, end up going with the Liberal Democrat. PA is one State that the Legislature needs to pass a law awarding the EVs on a Congressional basis rather than the Dem getting all the EVs because of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
