Look - the administration is taking a BIG gamble here. All it’s going to take is one, single case not related to medical personnel and the wheels will come off of this, fast. I would make a case that this type of event is, by epidemiological odds, a certainty. It really would have been better to take a stand of grim, competent preparation, which, of course, is now impossible.

One of the true believers brought up the oft-repeated talking point that more people die from the flu every year. They don't understand that as Obama lets more and more infected people into this country, that statistic is going to change.

Not just change, but we don’t know how much. I would guess, though, that plenty of these people have nothing to do with medicine. The problem with it being flu season is that early Ebola symptoms pass off as the flu. Early detection and treatment is key to increasing the chances of survival.
These people likely have no idea that real people are scared enough to pretty much not go out and cause harm to local business. What’s more, it takes a lot of a hospitals’ resources to run isolation units which aren’t meant for a whole lot of people. Could try tents if neccessary, but still, if Ebola finds a reservoir where it can hide, we will be stuck having repeated outbreaks within the country.
