Hillary Clinton was surprisingly bold on Ferguson
The Washington Post's The Fix ^ | August 29, 2014 | Nia-Malika Henderson

Progressives really, really, really wanted to hear from Hillary Clinton on the events in Ferguson, Mo., where an unarmed black teenager was shot and killed by a white police officer on Aug. 9, sparking days of unrest in that small city outside St. Louis and elsewhere.

Al Sharpton said he wanted to smoke Clinton out on Ferguson and suggested that if she ran in 2016, he would be a thorn in her side on civil rights issues.

MSNBC host Chris Hayes thought it was “bizarre” that Clinton hadn’t at least weighed in with a statement on the incident, even though she hasn’t made a habit of offering up opinions on much of anything outside of formal interviews and speeches. (She didn’t release a statement on the beheading of Jim Foley by ISIS, for instance)

It is downright bizarre that Hillary Clinton hasn't at least
issued a statement on Mike Brown.

Well, she finally addressed Ferguson on Thursday, during a prepared speech, and it turns out that her comments were among the most substantive compared to what other political leaders have said.

Whereas most Democrats and Republicans, and eventually President Obama, addressed the militarization of the police, Clinton actually went there on an issue that most avoided: racism and the criminal justice system.....

Surprisingly bold, deliciously fresh, pragmatically real...like a fine whine.

Imagine what we would feel and what we would do if white drivers were three times as likely to be searched by police during a traffic stop as black drivers instead of the other way around. . . . . . Imagine that.

Imagine if we could finally be free of these money-grubbing grifters. Imagine if the Clintons (and the Bushes) just went away and stopped bothering us. Imagine that.

The police officer has civil rights too....and from all I’ve read and heard, the evidence points to the fact that Brown almost took the officers civil rights from him....permanently. When Al Sharpton dies, the world will be a better place.....and I truly wish death on no one....not even Al Sharpton.....but, facts are facts.

Oh yeah, that’s the sign of the modern American “leader”.

Get out behind any given issue by about a week and a half or more...

Nice work, Cankles.

“Surprisingly bold” would be something like this:

“It is increasingly evident that the Officer’s story is true and that the supposed “eyewitnesses” are lying. This is another Trayvon Martin/Duke Lacrosse fiasco, where race is being exploited to the extent that blatant lies are being manufactured to push a racist agenda”

I want no part of that. The accusations against Officer Wilson, the lionization of Michael Brown, the looting, the phony “protests” . . all intended to set black against white and to increase black turnout for November

Racism is racism. End of story. Sharpton, Jackson and Nixon all ought to be punished for their divisive selfish exploitation.”

I’m pulling for the cop and hope he survives this...especially with the news MB may’ve been charged in the past with 2nd degree murder.

White drivers would be three times more likely than black drivers to be stopped in areas where they committed the most crime.

If hypothetically there were a crime wave in the area involving criminal female white senior citizens, I would expect to be stopped. I'd thank the police for doing their job.

when the community is 70% black, it would seem obvious to me...

“Imagine what we would feel and what we would do if white drivers were three times as likely to be searched by police during a traffic stop as black drivers instead of the other way around.”

The question places race as the only difference between two traffic stops, which pretends - erroneously - that all traffic stops have the same context, which ignores the higher crime rates in the heavily black urban setting, which is why CONTEXT - what’s going on - is the DOMINANT factor behind all traffic stops. Unless and until you place the CONTEXT of the traffic stop into the analysis, you cannot simply say that race was the deciding factor that someone be frisked or not.

“If white offenders received prison sentences ten percent longer than black offenders for the same crimes.”

Judges are usually given a range that is possible for a sentence and usually look at how “aggravated” is the context in which a crime occurred, and give, or recommend a sentence to be higher or lower based on the circumstances. For that reason you cannot compare two robberies simply on the race of the offender alone, and you cannot compare two sentences for robbery based on race alone, without knowing how “aggravated” the circumstances were. Only with ALL parts of the context and the jurisdiction being equal can you compare two convictions and THEN you can judge any other differences in the defendants.

“If a third of all white men – just look at this room and take one-third – went to prison during their lifetime.”

Yes, the crime rate for black men is higher. That is a fact of their commission of crimes and it is not higher than for whites because defendants who were black should have been let off more often and defendants who are white should have been convicted more often. A criminal is not a victim of someone else’s rave. They are a “victim” of their own crime.

Billy has observed that of he died, Hillary would garner 2 million more votes, just by campaigning in widow's weeds.

One sage weighed in w/ "she'd get even more votes if she shot him."

I say Chealse would win the presidency by acclamation if she offed both of them.
