Attackers must have watched Springer, says Bush

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -

President Bush told college sports champions Tuesday that the Sept. 11 attackers must have gotten an idea of the United States as a weak nation from watching "The Jerry Springer Show."

The television show, featuring Jerry Springer, is a daily free-for-all sometimes with wild on-stage brawls. According to the show's Web site (http://www.jerryspringer.com), it features topics such as "first time fantasies," "angry lovers attack," "bring on the bisexuals," and "scorned lovers fight back."

"They didn't think we were a nation that could conceivably sacrifice for something greater than our self, that we were soft, that we were so self-absorbed and so materialistic that we wouldn't defend anything we believed in. My, were they wrong. They just were reading the wrong magazine, or watching the wrong Springer show," said Bush.

Bush was speaking at a White House East Room event celebrating national championships won by seven National Collegiate Athletic Association teams.

No, they got the idea from watching his father and Bill Clinton. Jerry Springer had nothing to do with it.

Fat, lazy, and licentious societies are always easy prey for the leaner, more disciplined ones.

Jerry Springer had nothing to do with it.

Now there is a candidate we can all get behind as we dump Bush huh? Yep that's the ticket. Now as running mate may I suggest Larry Flynt?

Bush knows very well that one of the hijackers was born in this country. How he could say the terrorist (including Ossama) didn't know that we would come to get them is ludicrous. However, so far their hope that the Muslims living over here would join them in their jihad against America has backfired in their faces.

Bush shouldn't being using Clintonian propaganda tactics even though they are well received by the sheeple.

If they thought they could get away with it, most Muslims here would do away with America and replace it with their vision of the world. Fortunately for them, they've gotten a little fat and happy here and prefer to sit on the sidelines and quietly hate the Jews and Christians.

GWB is getting caught up in the "Why don't they like us" hysteria. They don't like us because we are INFIDELS. Springer has nothing to do with it. A GWB throw-away line for a few laughs (and thank you, Reuters, for "explaining" the Springer show to us! That was so cute and foreign.) Officially, the US Gov't cannot officially blame the attacks on a violent cult off-shoot of Islam. But, to blame it on Springer? Come on. The Feds' view: We can't handle the truth.

I believe saying the terrorists calculated our response from watching Springer is a far cry from saying that is WHY they attacked us.

You really are a brat! How dare you say the former president Bush's name in the same sentence with the creep Clinton? Your brains are mush.

You really are a brat! How dare you say the former president Bush's name in the same sentence with the creep Clinton? Your brains are mush. Conservatives thought the former President Bush was going to be perfect. Well, he wasn't but he was and is a fantastically brilliant and decent man and was a wonderful president.

Because conservatives pouted and stayed home from the polls we got that creep Clinton for eight years. That was OUR fault, not the former President Bush's.

There's more truth to this "throw-away" line than you suspect.

The trailer park trash and social decadence that we export as "entertainment" offends many in more conservative societies. For Christ's sake, it offends me!

I've traveled many a mile through many a country and the picture of the US is not a flattering one.

Mr. Springer and his ilk, like it or not, are in many instances, who we are perceived as.

Just what and who do you want to run this show? As I recall there were only two choices for president in 2000. Should the Americans have choosen Al Gore? Come on bright boy explain it all to us.

I took this as W using a little humor and at the same time taking a poke at Clinton. Obviously, brat doesn't get it.

Save your breath, Rush! brat is another one who wants to stand on the curb and taunt those who believe in something or someone, but has no solution himself(herself/itself)....

I think that was a great line said by President Bush... he wasn't condemning everyone in the US, he merely said that if the terroristic element was comparing Americans to the small element of trash that is seen on Springer, then they were WRONG! That isn't what Americans are.....it showed the stupidity of bin Laden and his followers to think that just because we were complacent, it didn't mean we wouldn't rise up against them

Good observation......Rushdie had an interesting article saying that Europeans are starting to observe american behavior as bizzare......check out this breaking story:

When Ralf Panitz appeared on the Jerry Springer Show - that addictively lurid televised chronicle of America's personal problems, in all their complex and infinitely depressing forms - he did not strike viewers as particularly out of the ordinary.

True, he had set up home again with his former wife without telling her that he had just been secretly married to a mistress she had not known about before their divorce. But this hardly counted as unusual on a show that, this week alone, has featured psychic strippers, wife-swapping transsexuals, and a row between a husband and wife over a stolen pig.

Hours after the episode entitled Secret Mistresses Confronted was aired, however, voyeuristic television appears to have metamorphosed into violent reality. Mr Panitz, 42, went on trial in Florida on Monday charged with murdering his ex-wife on the day of the broadcast, in a case which could see Mr Springer called as a witness.
