Pilot believed alive, held in Iraq

U.S. intelligence agencies have obtained new information indicating Iraq is holding captive a U.S. Navy pilot shot down during the Persian Gulf war, The Washington Times has learned.

British intelligence provided the CIA and Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) with the new information several months ago, and intelligence officials said it could assist in the ongoing investigation into the fate of Navy Lt. Cmdr. Michael Scott Speicher.

One U.S. official said the new agent offered to identify the exact location in Baghdad where the American is being held and also offered to obtain a photograph of the prisoner.

Bring him home.

I have read reports of an underground prison near the Palace at Salman (?) Park. There could be anything in there.

Well the bad thing is, now that this is widely reported, Saddam will probably kill him to make all evidence of him disappear. God knows what they've been doing to him all this time to get information from him. Truly sad.

Yea a march on into downtown Bagdad when we should have may have spared the Commander some grief and quite possibly saved his life. Saddams sons are worse than him much worse. That must be considered as well and taken care of. Time to finsh the war we never should have left unfinished. No Mercy! No Deals! No dictations from other nations. Take Iraq and establish it as a military operations base.

It's a crime that every President since Nixon has let Viet Nam go unpunished for our still unaccounted for POW/MIA's.
In fact in Oct 2001 Congress and the President rewarded Viet Nam with free trade status
WITHOUT a full accounting of those Nixon left behind.

Hmmmm....I don't know...the timing of this story seems a bit off. Disinformation has been circulating the 'net lately encased in "official" sounding reports. Well, I pray that our pilot is alive and we can get him out. Now that would be good news!

Indeed, my heart breaks for his family, do they send out a soldier to tell that family that their husband/dad/son has changed status? Isn't that the real cruelty of this situation?

On another note the timing of this is awful...but maybe that office of misinformation hasn't been closed(did they really have to open one, come on this is war)

Call me cold-blooded, but if I was in charge, I would issue an ultimatum: "Our airman has suffered long enough. We have decided to do something about it. If you do not release him unharmed within twenty four hours, we will vaporize your cities, to ensure that our airman is given an instantaneous, painless death."

Then I'd do it -- unless they released him unharmed.

I hope this pilot is alive. If he is truely alive, I hope we can save him.

If however this is the beginning of the "dis/mis/information" that signals the TOTAL DUMP on IRAN that begins the ass-kicking that should have continued thru the '90's...so be it.
