Donate to Free Republic to help keep the lights on! Do it now!!!

Since the first rebel's yell for America's freedom was heard across this great land, Americans have yearned to keep liberty alive. Today we face numerous challenges to our Constitution and Bill of Rights. We have a choice. One is to sit back and do nothing. The other is as our President George W. Bush said at his Inauguration Speech, to become actively involved as citizens. Make our voices heard. Shout it out loud so that Congress can hear our views.

FReeRepublic gives us that awesome opportunity. So you can sit back and let others Donate and Bump, or you can become involved...truly it feels really good!!!

Have you guys seen this post? JL

We received some good news today and I wanted to share it here with my freeper friends. We were audited back in 1995 for the yr.1993, a little later we were informed that we owed the IRS $3,000 dollars, they had all their little papers made out that looked all nice and legal and had us scared to death.

We did our best to fight them on this but the working class are almost always screwed from the beginning, so we went to our banker and borrowed the money to get their threats to stop. We felt a little better just knowing we owed them nothing but could still never figure out why we owed them in the first place.

I don't think it was 4-5mos. later we received notice we had been audited again for the yr. 1994, same thing, same ammount, $3,000 dollars, same old threats. To this day we can't figure out where they are coming from, we always pay our taxes, it is deducted from mine and my husband checks and we have never deliberately not paid.

We went back to our banker with this story, he told us that we were not the only ones this was happening to, he was seeing many customers with the same complaint. After he said this I told my husband we were not going to pay this time, it was extortion, blackmail or whatever you want to call it. These people, I decided were going to have to take me to court and "prove" we owed them a dime.

After looking for that needle in a haystack called and ex-IRS agent we could use as an attorney we finally found one. We turned over total power of attorney for just a few hundred dollars. We turned the tables and sued the IRS and won!

We not only soaked them for $9,300.00, we also sued for our money back and got an additional $4,700 ($3,000 plus interest.)

Bottom Line: FreeRepublic will be getting a cashiers check in the mail the moment we receive it.

Would any one here have any IRS horror storys or and "I kicked their butts" happy endings?

Bizarre - somehow I don't think that Mr.Everyman gets out so very often. Prolly about as often as he contributes to the best forum on the www. ;-)

My thoughts exactly!!!!

"Philanthropist - how about somebody with a job?"

Philanthropists don't have jobs, they have money.

I was one once. I think I was 12. {;~)

I know. I've already tried that, but FR and Java don't play too well.

Whether it's done with the States' list or individual FReepers, it would require BADJOE to work even harder (I doubt that JohnRob would grant someone like me access to the inner workings of FR, and if he offered it to me, I wouldn't accept it). Now, if he would hardwire the applet into FR through a class (say .fr_scroll), it might work.

Could you occasionally post the state contributions by Freeper numbers per state and/or by percentages so that we will know which states have the most cheapskate members!! For example, California is likely ahead at $6.05 per member, Texas at $3.79, and New Mexico at $2.36. Even lowly Rhode Island is at $2.50 and that beats New Mexico!!

Alternating blue/white (like Never Never Land), first half blue/second half white, or first half white/second half blue (the latter 2 would be easier to keep straight in coding and also not duplicate NNL)?

We've done that with previous FReepathons (in fact, I ran that last FReepathon). I simply don't have enough time to do it myself, so are there any volunteers?
