This is tragic...how could this happen?

Sounds like some bad communications between state and federal military. However, why are they conducting this type of military training off post anyway?

"The soldiers were taking part Saturday in a role-playing exercise that is part of the Army's Special Forces Qualification Course. "They're pretty tough on the guys who wash out.

The training exercise, known as ``Robin Sage,'' is the 19-day final exam of the Special Forces Qualification Course. It tests skills in survival, tactics and dealing with people, as well as judgment, decision-making and ethics. Looks like the soliders failed in the judgment and decision-making parts of the test pretty badly.

pure speculation....but I'd say the depuity probably screwed the pooch..there's no way the SF troopers would have tried to disarm a deputy, or pull a weapon on him.....they'd just show their ID.....I'd bet the deputy probably thought he'd stumbled on a "terrorist" incident.....over-reacted, and things got out of hand....the surviving trooper will tell the story....
