The CDC's Figures for 1998, most recent available:
Type of Accident/Total
All Automobile/41,200
Falls/16,600
Poisoning by solids, liquids/8,400
Pedestrian/5,220
Drowning/4,100
Fires, burns/3,700
Suffocation by ingested object/3,200
Firearms/900
Poisoning by gases, vapors/600
All other causes/13,500
TOTAL/92,200

(Edited at 1:11 AM, Sunday 10 Feb)I've uploaded (in a seperate message) an Excel file I made up, based on the CDC's stats.
If 9 kids a day are dying of firearms related accidents, the CDC is seriously underreporting.
Here are some other CDC stats:
Firearm Mortality
(All figures are for U.S.)

Annual Firearm Deaths: 30,708 (1998)
Age-Adjusted Death Rate: 11.3 deaths per 100,000 population (1998)
Death Rate for Males Ages 15-19: 28.0 deaths per 100,000 population (1998)
Death Rate for Black Males Ages 15-19: 75.5 deaths per 100,000 population (1998)
Firearm Suicide Deaths: 6.4 per 100,000 population (1998)
Fire(arms?) Homicide Deaths: 4.5 per 100,000 population (1998)

I say it's high time we repealed the law of Gravity.
It's obviously outdated and it hurts children. I 'm sure if the truth was reported we would find that children fall down more often then adults.
Of course we will need a lot of money to fight the "pro falling down" crowd, so send me what ever you can spare. Remember it’s for the children.

Thanks for looking- credit goes to D.W. Drang @ thefiringline.com ( a very fine site and forum ) for compiling the stats and making that Excel link.

It only confirms what I have known empirically for years- cars are the real manglers and killers of the modern world. Yet you find little outcry over it.

The CDC's Figures for 1998, most recent available:

1998 is the most recent available? Why? 2001 is done, completed, over, and the numbers of that year are final. Why cant we see the numbers from 2001?

Indeed, it seems to me that all they have is lies- plus a gullible public, and willing dupes in the media who aid their mendacity.

FBI stats here.

According to the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) in 2000, 533,470 victims of serious violent crimes (rape and
sexual assault, robbery, and aggravated assault) stated that they faced an offender with a firearm.
Victimizations involving a firearm represented 8% of the 6.3 million violent crimes of rape and sexual assault, robbery,
and aggravated and simple assault.
The FBI's Crime in the United States estimated that 66% of the 15,517 murders in 2000 were committed with firearms.

According to the 1997 Survey of State Prison Inmates, among those possessing a gun, the source of the gun was from -
a flea market or gun show for fewer than 2%
a retail store or pawnshop for about 12%
family, friends, a street buy, or an illegal source for 80%

I'd like to see them also. If you know where to get the numbers for 2001 I would appreciate it if you would get them and post them here. Thank you.

How many of the 100,000 women that were raped were ccw holders, and were carrying a handgun at the time? Betcha it is close to ZERO! Rape is a "preventable" crime, and was never widespread in america until the 1900's, when women stopped wanting to defend themselves.

Thanks, more fodder for my letters to the editor. That whole 13 kids a day crap came from the violence policy center's stats. The range for child was to 24 years old!! Which included people in the military and police officers.
