Arab singer denies lacking respect for Prophet Mohammad DUBAI, Feb 8 (AFP) - A popular Arab singer, against whom a Saudi cleric has called for the death penalty for comparing her sufferings to those of the Prophet Mohammad, has denied showing a lack of respect for the Muslims' revered prophet, a newspaper reported Friday.

"Am I crazy to say such a thing?" Tunisian singer Zikra (one name) asked in an interview with the pan-Arab daily Al-Hayat.

"I am saddened by what happened, because it has put me in a position of having to defend my (loyalty to my) religion," she said, adding that a journalist had distorted her remarks.

"May God forgive him for landing me in such a predicament," Zikra added.

Al-Hayat Thursday quoted Sheikh Ibrahim al-Khudairi, a judge at Riyadh's Islamic High Court, as saying the singer's remarks were "an act of apostasy which deserves punishment by execution."

She had "mocked the Prophet by comparing what she has endured to the suffering and hostility encountered by the Prophet Mohammad when he began to propagate the Islamic religion," the cleric said.

"She must be duly judged and sentenced if found guilty."

However he added that if the singer publicly retracted her statements and repented, then no action should be taken against her.

Zikra was quoted as telling a press conference in Doha, Qatar, where she was taking part in an Arab music festival this week, that the hardships she faced in launching her career were comparable to those of the Prophet.

Egypt's Mufti sprang to the singer's defense, telling Al-Hayat she had "merely compared her difficulties to those of the Prophet, without comparing herself to him or his mission."

A person whose remarks have been misinterpreted must be questioned in order to find out what he or she really meant, said Sheikh Nasr Farid Wassel.

The Law of Apostasy in Islam is proof that Islam is an ideology which is not compatible with the United States Constitution. Even Muslims in America are not given the right to turn away from Islam and choose their own religion. It is exactly this point which Muslim leaders in America must address publicly and without ambiguity if they really want us to consider them "moderates".

But Islam is a religion of peace (sarcasm) -- surely they couldn't seek her execution for the misinterpretation of a few words she spoke.

Geeze -- if they do this to their own, no wonder the rest of the world has cause to worry!!!

Hey -- couldn't tell you if your spelling of fatwas is correct or not, but the message is clear and I am 100% in favor of it.

Put out an execute order on all the Islamic clerics who sign a death warrant on others, and we could rid the world of its major source of terrorism.

Somebody mail me or write a post here to me regarding what the deal is about genies and Islam. I think today Robertson in an interview said that the god Isalm refers to is actually 1 of 5 genies.....

I want to know more. Does Islam really worship a genie?

From the Hadith of Abu Dawud [6]. Book 38, Number 4348:

Narrated Abdullah Ibn Abbas: A blind man had a slave-mother who used to abuse the Prophet and disparage him. He forbade her but she did not stop. He rebuked her but she did not give up her habit. One night she began to slander the Prophet and abuse him. So he took a dagger, placed it on her belly, pressed it, and killed her. A child who came between her legs was smeared with the blood that was there. When the morning came, the Prophet was informed about it.

He assembled the people and said: I adjure by Allah the man who has done this action and I adjure him by my right to him that he should stand up. Jumping over the necks of the people and trembling the man stood up.

He sat before the Prophet and said: Apostle of Allah! I am her master; she used to abuse you and disparage you. I forbade her, but she did not stop, and I rebuked her, but she did not abandon her habit. I have two sons like pearls from her, and she was my companion. Last night she began to abuse and disparage you. So I took a dagger, put it on her belly and pressed it till I killed her. Thereupon the Prophet said: Oh be witness, no retaliation is payable for her blood.

allah is said to be the moon-god, an acient arabic god. It's worshippers did several things mohammed also used for islam, like praying towards mecca several times a day, friday prayer service, the annual pilgrimage and giving to the poor.

And it also explains the cresent moon, their symbol. Many more can be found here.

As for the genies, mohammed even claimed to have converted genies (koran, surrah 46:29-35; 72:1-28). More about 'jinns' here

Rule by fear and terror. Mete out punishment in a capricious manner, ignore the rule of law, save the "law" that says some despicable idealogue can have you killed on a whim. That is not "law". That is tyrrany. The destruction of rule by fear: That's an acceptable cause to die or kill for.
