"Hypocrite" of the Year Award Goes To: Loyola University School of Law
"Catholic" University Invites Noted Anti-Life Supreme Court Justice as Distinguished Ainsworth Lecturer
by Human Life International
"I find it unconscionable for a Catholic Jesuit university to invite pro-abortion Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to speak as a 'distinguished' guest lecturer," stated Richard Clair, Esq., 1976 graduate of Loyola University New Orleans School of Law and Board Member of Human Life International. Loyola University of New Orleans has completely ignored its own "Character and Commitment Statement" when it decided to invite Justice Ginsberg to speak at its law school today. Paragraph two of the statement reads, "We acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus and affirm that God was in Christ reconciling the world to God. Around this central confession of Faith, we hope to shape our lives. It would be meaningless for Loyola to label itself Catholic and Jesuit were it not to center its self-understanding upon these truths." In reference to the university's namesake, St. Ignatius Loyola, the statement continues: "It would be well to recall the role of the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius Loyola... The Exercises aim to enable a person, with God's help, to make a Christian choice in regard to the most significant truths and values of life." Values of life? Loyola's decision flies in the face of the "values of life" by inviting one of the most pro-abortion justices it could find: a woman who not only voted on the side of the gruesome partial-birth abortion process in Stenberg vs. Carhart decided on 28 June 2002, but who also wrote her own concurring opinion. "Honoring a radical feminist judge who is in favor of killing little babies in the birth canal with scissors is the ultimate slap in the face to the saint and to God. Maybe Loyola should change their motto: To the greater glory of choice" said Fr. Thomas Euteneuer, President of Human Life International. Now this so-called "Catholic" university needs to make a choice: It must either live up to the Faith it supposedly professes or lose the "Catholic and Jesuit" label. It is high time to stop this blatant hypocrisy. Founded in 1981, Human Life International (www.hli.org, 1-800-549-5433) is the world's largest pro-life, pro-faith, pro-family educational apostolate, with chapters in the United States and a network of international branches and affiliates around the world. |
