CNN just announced following up on an ealier report on CNBC that there will be no special prosecutor appointed by the Justice to investigate the Enron case.

Guess the liberals will have to find something else to whine about.

These are the same liberals who couldn't stand special prosecutors when they were investigating clinton, right?

During the clinton years, there were real crimes with investigators looking for suspects. The liberals now want investigators looking at suspects in hopes of finding a crime. Interesting juxtaposition, don't you think?

Bummer. I was waiting for the headlines:

Special Prosecutor subpeonas Clinton, Richardson, McLarty, Ron Brown's widow, Albright, Prime Ministers' of India, Mozambique, Croatia & Nigeria. Announces many more to follow.

Lieberman, Daschle and Waxman announce joint vacation to Indonesia. Fritz Hollings checks into nursing home for "jest a little tech of rehab".

The independent council law lapsed after the dems got a taste of their own medicine.

Special prosecutors are a horse of another color cuz special prosecutors can be saddled with limited authority and reined in when they become too threatening.

I think the independent prosecutor law has expired, therefore one cannot be appointed.

But the Libs will spin this into "The Bush Administrate refuses to appoint an independent prosecutor". Forget the details that they can't.

Of course there has been crimes. Hundreds. The easiest to prove would be the post-subpoena shredding.

Whatever the special prosecutor law, I question why one would be needed. The politicians have hooked themselves to Enron, but I don't see a connection to Enron's fall. The special prosecutor would be for presidential or congressional misconduct, I believe, and perhaps someone can explain that. I would think this is an issue for state, and maybe federal district attorneys. Or the Securities and exchange Commission.

I think you are right. I did hear one statment today on FOX that ENRON might not have committed crimes but what they did wasn't right. That seems like plenty enough to bash Bush with instead of having their candidates run against their apponents on the issues of their own districts.

The main reason that the liberals are crying for a special prosecutor is because the investigation would then be privateand they could make all the nasty innuendos that they pleased.

The justice department announced that they are investigating Enron back through 1999. The Democrats did not want the investigation to go back that far. I guess this is all backfiring on them.

Yes, if you saw Ernest Hollings today you witnessed a crime.

Just like the movie "Dumb and Dumber" was a crime.

Good- the position of Special Prosecuter is bogus anyways. It is the duty and responsibility of CONGRESS to investigate potential crimes by the President.

Didn't we learn anything from Janet Reno?

Fritz Hollings checks into nursing home for "jest a little tech of rehab".

They had to bring Fritz out of moth-balls to embarrass himself with that senile sounding "cash and carry" rant against the Bush admin.
Nobody could seem to figure out what exactly he was trying to say...

Did they bring him out as their 'fall guy' to go extreme, hoping some of it would stick in dumb people's minds, because they expect him to retire at the end of his term, anyway? Protecting their losses over such a ridiculous position because they would lose him anyway?
