Militant Group that kidnapped report may have SC camp
The State ^ | 2/3/02

Militant group might have S.C. camp

The chief suspect in U.S. journalist Daniel Pearl's abduction heads a militant Islamic group that might have training compounds in South Carolina and other states, said an official in Pakistan's Interior Ministry who spoke on condition of anonymity.

He might be extradited to the United States within 48 hours, the official said.

That suspect is Sheik Mubarik Ali Gilani, the man Pearl reportedly hoped to meet when he disappeared Jan. 23 in Karachi.

Gilani is a militant Islamic cleric who police say has ties to both Osama bin Laden and so-called shoe bomber Richard Reid, the British national who allegedly tried to blow up an American Airlines flight with explosives hidden in his sneakers.

Police say Gilani, who heads an extremist group that allegedly has thousands of followers in the United States, operates a religious school in the Pakistan city of Lahore. Until recently, they say, he also ran military training sites south of Lahore to prepare Islamic radicals for holy war in Kashmir, Chechnya, Afghanistan and the United States.

The plump 60-year-old militant cleric, who has made frequent trips to the United States, was arrested Thursday in Rawalpindi, a city that borders on Islamabad.

Before being flown to Karachi for further questioning, he told police he financed many of his operations in Pakistan with money sent by his followers in the United States, one arresting officer said.

The officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Gilani warned that hundreds of his followers in the United States would react violently to his arrest.

A Pakistan government official said U.S. documents presented in support of extradition said the militant Islamic group Gilani founded, Tanzeem ul Fuqra, operates the Quranic Open University in Los Angeles, which has branches in New York City and Philadelphia.

The documents cited reports claiming that Tanzeem ul Fuqra has training compounds in New York, Michigan, South Carolina, California and perhaps other states.

South Carolina's homeland- security director, Steve Siegfried, said Saturday night that he has no knowledge of any such terrorist training camp in South Carolina.

No U.S. officials could be reached in Pakistan for comment late Saturday on the legal foundation they have laid for Gilani's extradition, or what charges he could face in the United States.

But the Interior Ministry official said Pakistan is ready to hand Gilani over to the United States not because of his alleged role in Pearl's kidnapping but because of the numerous crimes in the United States that have been linked to Tanzeem ul Fuqra since the mid-1980s.

In 1984, according to documents presented to Pakistan, Tanzeem ul Fuqra was linked to the firebombing of a Hare Krishna temple in Denver.

In the early 1990s, the documents said, several of the group's members were arrested after police found 30-40 pounds of explosives, handguns, bomb-making instructions and manuals on such topics as flying airplanes and reading blueprints in a storage locker in Colorado Springs.

More recently, a Tanzeem ul Fuqra member was arrested for the murder last August of a Fresno County deputy sheriff in California, according to the extradition documents.

Thanks for your kind words. It was Clovis Skeptic that got it all rolling, Lady in Red and others like you contributing.

The problem even on Free Republic with real conservatives who realize what is at stake in this war on terrorism. We have a problem of getting the word out to others who might be interested in this and are working on parts of this puzzle. We don't have their imput, and they don't have our imput.

Ernest at the Beach is great with his indexing and pinging on Jihad in America. Still about once a week, I get feedback from a good Freeper working this issue not aware of our work on this camp back in Dec./Jan/Feb.

You had one of the best suggestions. That was to have the FBI go in and collect spent bullets at the Fresno area camp and others where target practice was a regular activity.

Then, we would have a basic ballistic library reference on guns used at these camps. That could be used in preventive police work and to solve crimes where guns have been used.

Re your last comment about the FBI. Hopefully we have some good retired FBI agents who forwarding what we dig up and suggest on Free Republic to their buddies working to protect us!

Thanks for the report that it worked.
I was directed to that website by Fred25 who I doubt will ever be permitted back to FR. I haven't told anyone else about the site because for one, I just found out about it and two, I think the authorities already know about it. I'm almost glad that the blinders are finally coming off of people including myself. I just heard that the islamics are displacing long time villagers near the Himalayan Mountains. I hate saying it but it looks like the islamics[and I'm going to stop capitalizing their name] have created World War III.

The FBI should start here at these places (listings found through a simple switchboard.com search for "Mosques" in "SC"):

Al-Jami Ar-Rasheed
1998 Hugo Ave
Charleston, SC 29405-8151
Phone: (843)554-1773

Islamic Center of Charleston
1117 King St
Charleston, SC 29403-3761
Phone: (843)958-9585

Islamic Center of Columbia
1929 Gervais St
Columbia, SC 29201-3505
Phone: (803)254-7242

"Islamic Centers" in the Chicago area have been linked to terrorist contact networks and money (whadda surprise - not!).

Here is a newstory from 12/01 worth noting and your South Carolina link to the story Click here

Below is a small part of a very interesting article:

Abdul-Haqq was one of the first Muslims to settle here in the early 1980s, leaving his childhood home in Brooklyn for a life without the distractions and vices of the modern world.

Since then, Islamberg has mushroomed. What started out with two families has grown to include more than 50, most of them African Americans. The community grew from an old hunting lodge and a few trailers to a landscape dotted by mobile homes, and the group is working to add 97 acres to the 67 it already owns.

Members of the group work in the surrounding area as lawyers, doctors and contractors. Some have businesses in New York City. Muslims of the Americas gets its money -- which it uses to buy land, make improvements to the settlement and build its new mosque -- from donations from the people who live there. They do not charge rent, Abdul-Haqq said.

Over the years, other settlements followed: In South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia and elsewhere, all with the idea of escaping the pitfalls of modern life, Abdul-Haqq said.

And all peaceful, he said.

Investigations begin

Police in Colorado Springs, Colo., came to a different conclusion after they raided a rented storage locker in 1989....see article for the full story

If they kill the WSJ reporter then we should kill this fat bastard.

He knows too much to kill (right away). I do not want to torture him, nor do I want to violate his rights, if he has any. All I want is to find out everything he knows, and then execute him for crimes against humanity.

He is terrorist slime committed to the mass murder of innocent people. He is not, however, a U.S. citizen. He is not a soldier covered under the Geneva Convention. Based on his actual, legal rights, he should be thankful if we do not feed him his crushed gonads for breakfast.

Because we are civilized human beings (unlike many of his Islamic friends), we will not do this.

I don't believe a word of this story!

If the head of SC's homeland defense has never heard of these clowns having a training base in his state --- then they don't exist.

Even if there were a training camp in SC -- it was to learn the Koran and how to live in peace and tolerance for others in this fine, free land of ours.

Even if they found explosives --- surely, they were to help Americans celebrate Independence Day on July 04.

Even if they blew up the Hare Krishna Temple -- they did it because we were all sick and tired of those screwed up souls stopping us in airports and on the street begging for money.

But, most of all -- I disbelieve this story because our President has told us that Islam is a "religion" of peace and love - and not a cult that teaches hate, murder and intolerance.

< /sarcasm>

It's coming close to the time when "peace loving, good muslims" had better speak out and act out against the dangerous and threatening element of their "religion" -- or, they will all be considered suspect and treated accordingly... This could become VERY UGLY.

I have STILL not heard of one "Fatwah" or "Clerical Decree" against these Islamic Radical Bastards........WHY?

Arm thyselves, neighbors --- there may yet be one more campaign to fight --- close to home.

There have been investigations in the Carolinas that yielded fruit.

A cell of Hizballah was caught in Charlotte within the last 2 or 3 years... they were buying cigarettes in NC (which has very low cigarette taxes) and reselling them elsewhere on the black market and sending the proceeds back over to their brothers in arms in the mideast allegedly...

For at least 8 years the gov't has been hounding and harrassing white male CITIZENS who have the temerity to own guns and believe in the Constitution; meanwhile ignoring the REAL threats to freedom.

You have a real interesting point here. During X42's watch, there were one heck of a lot of inappropriate raids by ATF. Xlintoon and his merry band were darn well trying to aid these terorist groups, for whatever personal reason or financial reason, I can't tell at this time. All the raids were against white American citizens. If any other ethnic group were involved, it was sure the best kept secret since Roswell;-)

IMHO, this is the final result of PC run amok. 30 years of one group of leftie socialits in tenured positions teaching another group of kids to be socialists. "Hate Crimes" are a similar fiasco, seeing as that by definition, a hate crime cannot be committed against a white American.

My intent is not to foment racism in any form, rather to show that the PC bunch IS the racist group. It is perfectly OK to simply raid a bunch of caucasians who happen to enjoy shooting, but if one were to raid a group of (Enter ethnic/sexual preference group here), then they (those conducting the raid) would be branded racist, riots would ensue, etc etc. We have, in the terrorist connection ONE identifiable ethnic group which is conducting the terrorist operations. It is high time to quit being PC and starting to protect our own.

Sure, at some unidentifiable point in the future, those detained are going to begin suing for reparations, that is basically, given the way things work, a given. The fact remains, however that until we have gotten a handle on the terror networks, we have to, basically, suspect anyone of the terrorist "profile", and take what knocks come down later. Hopefully, history will prove us right in doing this, but at this point, profiling and detention are the only aids we have going.

There should be a heck of a lot of investigation about just what happened on X42's watch. We have FALN terrorists pardoned, we have a pardons-for-cash operation running, we have a disarmament mill working, we have the demil provisions in the Defence Appropriation Bill that we have had to fight each year it comes up, and the whole thing is hidden behind a spin machine that operates without fail.

This didn't just happen on GWB Jr's watch, this has been in the works for some time. If one recalls, I believe that someone promised "Massive Retaliation" against the Republican Party after the 2000 elections. Well, we are seeing it unfold before our very eyes. Because everything has to be PC, it does not get reported because "it might offend (insert offended group here).

The only solution now is to stop the PC BS, close the borders totally, and detain those who meet the terrorist criteria.

Keep the Faith for Freedom

MAY GOD BLESS AND PROTECT THIS HONORABLE REPUBLIC

Greg

I have told you and told you, these so called American muslims are 95% in favor of our enemies, in fact they are the ones who are FUNDING our violent terrorist enemies. There is no such thing as a Muslim American!

Poor ole FDR, he rounded up Japanese almost none of which were really a threat and against the USA, but a few might have been--- this threat is a thousand times worse than that, and still no roundup. Send them all to camps in Alaska.

I distinctly rememer hearing on the news Friday evening that there is an active cell in Charlottesville, VA as well. Can anyone confirm?

Shermy and I collected a few links to other al Fuqra groups (except I don't have time to find them right now--that's why I pinged him). One was in Virginia, another was in Colorado, another in New York, plus the one in California (and I'm sure there are more). Just do a google.com search on "Fuqra" and you'll come up with some very chilling information.
