President Bush will ask Congress to set aside at least $100 million for experimental programs aimed at getting single welfare mothers to marry... This is a laugh riot. I cannot wait to hear more about these experimental programs.
I wish President Bush would not put his name to this type of program...it is an obvious failure.

He needs to quit giving them money and they'll get off their lazy butts and find a job or if they don't want to work, they'll find a husband to support them.

Don't say bad things about Bush around here. Everything he does is wonderful, even though he's spending money and growing government faster than Kennedy on crack.
You're not supposed to wonder why he hasn't done (and doesn't plan to do) a damn thing about illegal immigration or take half a stand on pro-life issues either.
GWB farts golden gas and if you complain you're not a team player. Even if you spent your time and money getting him elected like me.
God bless President Bush.

HOW STUPID OF AN IDEA IS THIS. MARRRY THE WELFARE.
WE WILL JUST HAVE MORE MOUTHS TO FEED.
DUMB IDEA
To: GeneD
Many conservatives have made this their top priority, arguing that two-parent families are better for children and key to escaping poverty. But many are uncomfortable putting government that deeply into people's personal lives and no one knows what sort of programs would succeed in increasing marriage rates. But, they don't mind putting government into people's personal lives when it comes to removing a father from his children FOR NO REASON, or making the man pay for the woman NO MATTER WHAT........
Single mothers are REWARDED for evicting fathers from their childrens' lives. Men are reduced to walking wallets and MAYBE visitors to their children. The whole idea of the klinton welfare "reform" was to shift the burden of payments made to single mothers from the taxpayer directly to men. Now the men get to support two households....even if the mother is working and making more than the man.
When we literally STOP funding single moms, both through welfare and "child" support, then we can have true welfare reform. And when this happens, perhaps marriage will be more "attractive" to the woman who now thinks that she is better off as a single mother.

even though he's spending money and growing government faster than Kennedy on crack. Yes, yes, we know that....but he's so gosh darn cute, charming, and tasteful when he does it, y'see. And as long as he maintains that More-Class-Than-Clinton image, that's all that matters.

if you complain you're not a team player I never was much of a team player, especially when I see failure in a game plan.

But many are uncomfortable putting government that deeply into people's personal lives and no one knows what sort of programs would succeed in increasing marriage rates. The irony is that government is already delving too deep into people's personal lives. As it stands now, if a welfare mom marries, she will lose benefits. So that is an incentive to stay unmarried.

100 mill? I'd marry for half the price!

Around here we are hearing constantly about the "digital divide" and talk that the government (taxpayers) must provide all people with computers and internet access. Of course there seems to be no television or cable access divide or game-player divide.

This is a stupid idea. Most (notice I didn't say all ) of these women are sleeping with bums or criminals who end up in jail and will never be married.
The least the government could do is stop with the silly PC science and recognize the population they are dealing with.
Before I get flamed, let me say, I know, I work in this arena! I know the truth, I know the demographics of the welfare and single mother issue.

The "digital divide" scam drives me nuts every time I open my phone bill and see the surcharges for universal access. Maybe we should start calling it the Bush tax instead of the Gore tax as it seems that George doesn't intend to anything about repealing this illegal charge.

Wouldn't it be cheaper just to pay for operation so they couldn't have any more kids?

I need to see the actual proposal, rather than the USA Today interpretation. I notice that many of these things are listed under things the Administration is "considering." It has been my experience they consider an awful lot of things they don't actually do.
I am in favor of encouraging marrriage, but I do not want any more money expended to do so, unless it is taken from a useless liberal program which is defunded.
I will wait and see. If it as USA Today hints, I will oppose it. But I would be surprised if this is the total picture.

The Rockefeller Republican strikes again. Before you know it Bush will revive the "Great Society". Texans think alike ya'know.
