For the third year in a row, Detroit ranks as the Most Dangerous City in America, according to a new report from Morgan Quitno Press. The 2002 Most Dangerous and Safest City Awards are based on a city's rate for six basic crime categories as measured by crime data collected and analyzed by the FBI: Murder, Rape, Robbery, Aggravated assault, Burglary and Motor vehicle theft.

"With no murders, the fifth lowest rape and aggravated assault rates, Amherst has one of the lowest crime rates of any city," according to Scott Morgan, president of Morgan Quitno.

I wish they would have considered Panama City, Florida on the safe list.
Geography makes it nearly impossible for a criminal to leave this county once they are looking for them. A series of bays and bridges make it fairly easy to bottle up the exits and trap those fleeing police and as a result of that and just plain good police work, it has become widely known that if you do your crime here, you will almost certainly be caught.

The Brady Campaign gave Maryland an "A" The Brady folks recently gave Vermont a "D" and Maine an "F". They gave Mass. an "A-" and NY a "B+". I read this in my local paper and nearly fell off my chair laughing.

Great! I've often thought that it would be nice to know of a site that had crime rates by zip code. When traveling, you really need better definition than city boundaries.
