This is the pledge that is the target of the objections:

"I salute the flag of Virginia, with reverence and patriotic devotion to the ‘Mother of States and Statesmen,’ which it represents—the ‘Old Dominion,’ where liberty and independence were born."

Hard to see what's wrong with the wording. Perhaps they're objecting to the part about liberty being born in Virginia.

There is nothing wrong with the wording. They are simply trying to increase their power. I note that the article saw fit NOT to include the actual words of the pledge--leaving the reader in ignorance of what "might" be offensive.

An unlikely pair of legislators, delegate Viola O Baskerville and Senator Warren E Barry, are working together to push a bill that would allow women to obtain emergency contraceptives or the morning after pill from pharmacies without first seeing their doctors.

"I had some concerns last year that this was an abortion pill, and I talked to medical experts and found that it was a contraceptive" said Mr Barry, Fairfax Republican.

Mrs Baskerville, Richmond Democrat said making the contraceptive more widely availavle would reduce the number of abortions.

"We can no longer continue to talk about making abortions rare if we do not also act to prevent unintended pregnanciesin the first place", Mrs Baskerville said.

First redefine abortion, then legalize abortion pills, then make it 'over the counter', then have the school nurse hand it out. I think Virginia (and America) has worse problems than the pledge.
