To: The New York City Council, The New York City Fire Department
We the undersigned citizens of the United States, and concerned citizens from other nations, hereby petition the New York City Fire Department and the City of New York as follows regarding the proposed statue depicting the raising of the US flag at ground zero of the WTC attack by firefighters on September 11, 2001.
"Jerk"
So nice of you to sign your reply. This is the first time I posted this. It was placed into 'breaking news' to commememorate two milestones - One Week, and 64,000 posts.
My wife has informed me that every birthday and every anniversary are 'Breaking News', or I'm in trouble. As this 'Petition' celebrates and promotes 'TRUTH', such is always news to liberals.
I apologize for not recognizing that you were calling me a 'jerk', and that such was not your signature. My mistake, although my being a jerk has nothing to do honoring the 'truth'.
Gosh and hack, maybe they will have to actually work like the rest of us to get by! FCOL! (For Crying out Loud)
No, it simply means we are having an effect. They will squeal apparently at about 50,000. I wonder what they do at 100,000? ... 250,000? etc.
KEEP UP THE PRESSURE. No "PC", "diviersity oriented" monument. The flag represents our diversity melded into a union. Make the monument, whatever it is, historically accurate and therefore virtuous!
In case anyone is wondering, yes, I did sign the petition, but I'd like some reassurance that it means something.
If the moderators or Jim do not want it there ... they will take it down and none of us will argue.
Your response Illbay was pretty small IMHO, sorry you felt compelled to spend your time that way ... but thanks for the BUMP just the same. Please keep it "up".
I believe the "eanil chain" effect have been kicking in from day two right on through now. This is amazing longevity as most peter out after three to four days max, usually less. The issue had and continues to strike chord and we need to keep pressing it home.
Seeing quite a few from England today.
Other 'tools' of presentation beyond the 'internet' would include 'Hard Copy'. I feel confident even though 3,000 miles away that FReepers will see that the petition is MORE than made aware of.
Uh huh. So the title of this thread: FDNY inspired on-line petition blows by 50,000 signatures is just a COMPLETE coincidence, right?
Here's the deal: "Breaking News" is something that is of interest to more than 90% of FReepers. It isn't there for your personal "yea-boy" graffiti.
Great, so you have a petition going on a story that had legs for about three days and is not even remembered by most (and that was a bunch of bulls*** in the first place).
Fine, post all about it. Just keep it off the Breaking sidebar, where it pushes off REAL news.
It is having an impact by its existance and continued growth.
I would love to see all petition signatures delivered to the City of New York and the Fire Department.
From my experience at Klamath Falls, I can tell you that 10,000 signatures fills about a 3" spiral bound book completely and there is cost involved in getting the names captured, printed and bound.
I believe at the 100,000 mark we should consider doing that and making plans to do so at 100,000 ... again at 250,000 and then at 500,000 and one million if it goes that far ... but it'll cost quite a bit and we'll need to get people to donate.
It is possible we will have the desired effect without doing so. They (FDNY and NYC) are already talking about it.
And, I haven't even sent you one yet. {;~)
Hillary, Bill, OJ and the NBA???
We'll be content to let Jim and the moderator decide ... either way.
then, at the next milestone, someone else will post it again for the decision to be made again. You're free to disagree and to keep posting here and BUMPing it too.
ForGod'sSake was the 'poster', and 14,000 more people showed up.
What's the total of number of people missing in NYC? That's still on the 'Breaking News Banner' at the 'news networks'. Sorry, we seem to disagree on what constitutes breaking news. I don't believe 90% of the FReepers being interested is 'the' criterion.
Perhaps we can include this with each new "milestone" thread when it is posted. Maybe the next could be at 75K and then 100K.
Now at 65990 BUMP!
Jerk."
What's your major malfunction numnvts?
