Looks like the Republicans have gotten themselves into the same philosophical contradiction the Libertarians have always had. The Libertarian idea of a small limited government that doesn't force you to pay for what you don't believe in sounds wonderful, but then they pair that with a completely open border philosophy based on the proposition any person should be free to live anywhere he chooses. Considering that we live in a country with already established socialist leanings, the smaller government will never be achieved (via elections) if the borders are open because those who most want to immigrate today are the ones most likely to want, need, and expect more government handouts and vote for the same. I don't think the Republicans will do any better here regardless of which languages they use. Some have mentioned that 'Hispanics' are conservative leaning; but, if true at all for the particular group being "reached out" to, I think that applies more to the "family values" and maybe strong military side of conservatism rather than the less tax "be responsible for yourself" side of conservatism. So, if you have a Republican offering strong family values and a Democrat offering a multitude of taxpayer provided goodies, the Democrat is still going to win big, assuming he is the one willing to make the taxpayer pay the most for the vote. They don't really need the Republican for the family values, but they do need the Democrat for the benefits. True, the Republicans, like GW, can offer amnesties, 245(i)s, etc, and that might get some family values votes, but they are just padding the country with more future Democrats doing that.
