Israel Accuses Iran Plan to Destroy Jewish State with Nuclear Weapons

Israel says it fears Iran is planning to develop nuclear weapons to annihilate the Jewish state.

In a letter Friday to Secretary general Kofi Annan, Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres said an influential group of Iranians is planning Israel's destruction.

Mr. Peres referred to a December 14 speech by former Iranian President Ali Akbar Rafsanjani when he said the Islamic world was seeking atomic bombs to destroy Israel and undermine Western influence in the Middle East.

Mr. Peres says the speech is a clear sign of Iranian hatred for Israel and its declared goal to wipe it out.

He is asking for U.N. help in pressuring Iran to give up its nuclear program.

Iran has not yet responded to the Peres letter, but has always said its nuclear program is strictly for peaceful purposes.

I'd rather the UN do it. If not, Israel can, and will do it. It will then face sharp criticism for "escalating the conflict."

Not to worry.

The problem in Afghanistan is just about solved. The Pakistan "solution" is just around the corner and then it's Iran's turn "in the barrel".

Israel showed great restraint in not using nuclear weapons the last time it faced a massive surprise attack from its friendly neighbors. Israel is the only country in the Middle East that can be trusted to possess nukes. You know that though, don't you.

It developed them to use as a detterent because it would never be the agressor or attack. Iran (or at least some high ranking people) have suggested that Israel be striked with nukes as an offensive action. Therefore, as long as they can prevent another country in the region from developing nukes, the core of Israel is safe because the arabs can't gang up on them and launch a major attack (or at least not succeed in doing so) since if Israel ever got to the point where it's back was up agasint the wall, it could take out all the major cities in the arab kingdom.

Uh, why the hell can't Israel be trusted with nukes? What would they do with them besides launch them if they were on the literal verge of destruction and/or attacked with them first? They've had them for decades and have never even launched any conventional attacks offensivly

wiping each other out and giving the world a New Year's gift: peace. And oil.

Hey! You up there! Come down! You're gunna get a nose bleed.

How many years do you think it would take the world economy to recover from the impact to the oil market and infrastructure in the wake of 'all-out-nuclear-heck' in the middle-east?

New years when -- 2022? 2032?

Second question, do you agree that massive shifts of geo-political power and balance are a VERY bad thing for the world in general?

The planet is a starship, and you wanna do tricks like it was a skateboard.

What are you, nuts?

The UN hates Israel. Most members would love to see them roast.

Israel must not give an inch anymore. Clinton almost sealed her fate.

It is time to pick up the gauntlet... and hang the luck.

Iran is still itching to nuke Israel as would Syria and Iraq if they had the technology.

I'm a Catholic, but I would rather fight beside an Israeli than a Muslim.
