Federal and state wildlife biologists planted false evidence of a rare cat species in two national forests, officials told The Washington Times. Had the deception not been discovered, the government likely would have banned many forms of recreation and use of natural resources in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and Wenatchee National Forest in Washington state.

This *CAN'T* be true because with so many people involved it would have to be a conspiracy - and everybody knows that there's "no such thing as conspiracy".

Yep, it's these same guys who crawl around examining piles of animal poop and then try to determine if even the plants and critters they eat are "endangered"...

I got an idea...we could do a reverse sting on them...You know, plant false piles of poop for them to probe.

Once again the different standards that are applied to government employees and to the rest of us serfs are apparent

When you commit fraud, ecoterrorism and conspiracy as a government employee this is your punishment
The employees have been counseled for their actions and banned from participating in the three-year survey of the lynx, listed as a threatened animal under the Endangered Species Act. Federal officials would not name the offending employees, citing privacy concerns.
When you have a four rifles the have some cosmetic differences from the "acceptable" in connecticut Here is what you get
man's bond set to 2.6 million dollars for have four banned rifles

These individuals should not just be fired. They committed a criminal act. They broke federal law and tried to prevent access to national forests by citizens of the United States WHO OWN THOSE FORESTS. They should be spending about twenty years in a federal prison.

Federal employees regularly break the law, keep their jobs (so they can break it again) and get away with it. Meanwhile, CITIZENS who break the same laws rot in jail!

"I would find the evil-twin argument more plausible," said Rob Gordon, executive director of the National Wilderness Institute. "That would be like bank robbers taking money from a bank and saying they were just testing the security of a bank, they weren't really stealing the money. That's beautiful, but I don't think it will fly," Mr. Gordon said.

The Dodos are not extinct. (Found the right thread, at last.)

Not arrested? Not fired? What gives?

Thank you, spycatcher. Enlightening article, considering there are those who wish to list much of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan as lynx habitat which in turn would mean denial of access by the public to the same habitat.

The Endangered Species Act is sorely in need of serious revision if not outright repeal.

When the Vail Ski Resort announced an expansion of trails into possible lynx habitat, the radical animal-rights group Earth Liberation Front (ELF) torched five buildings and four ski lifts in protest. The Oct. 18, 1998, fire caused $12 million in damage and was the largest act of eco-terrorism in the United States. No arrests were made, and the statute of limitations expired in October.

They don't wanna catch 'em. Maybe we should get Ashcroft to freeze their assets?

Ooops. One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist.

You're right. This scale of this fraud/theft attempt should be equal to the value of the lands that would have been taken. Attempted grand larceny or destruction of govenment property on a massive scale. It doesn't matter that they weren't going to benefit monetarily.

This is like attempting to poison a giant resevoir of water to prevent it's use. It's ideological terrorism. I would bet there are cells of these biologists all throughtout the country attacking our system in this way.
