America fears attack on key Islamic date

AMERICAN Intelligence chiefs fear that al-Qaeda may use a key date in the Muslim calendar as a pretext to launch new terror strikes next week.
The 27th day of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month, is the day on which the Koran was completed and given to the Prophet Muhammad. It is a particularly auspicious day when those who die could expect to receive extended forgiveness. It falls on December 12 (wednesday) and is believed to be one of the reasons why the White House has again issued a warning of fresh attacks.

Tom Ridge, Mr Bush’s chief of Homeland Security, spoke of credible new evidence and said that Americans should be alert during the closing days of Ramadan and through Christmas.

One well-placed source said: “If you’re looking at dates for possible attacks, the 27th day of Ramadan stands out.”

Faiz Rehman, of the American Muslim Council, said the date was important, but that the 25th and 23rd days of Ramadan were also significant: “It’s most likely that those are the days when you get maximum forgiveness.” Any suggestion that those who took their own life on such days while expecting salvation would be pursuing a distorted version of Islam, just as those who hijacked the September 11 flights were, he said. “Suicide is forbidden in Islam. It is a major sin,” he said.

Mr Ridge denied reports that one of the reasons for maintaining the heightened state of alert was concern over Osama bin Laden’s possible possession of a radioactive bomb, but he insisted that the increased volume and credibility of Intelligence interceptions meant he had no option but to issue a public warning.

The US is on an indefinite state of maximum alert against attacks on its soil, or against American interests around the world. The latest warning issued by the White House is the third time that senior Administration figures have demanded increased vigilance from the public.

There are concerns among officials that they are in danger of crying wolf once too often. Nothing followed the other two warnings of attacks and the White House fears that Americans may have dropped their guard.

I have figured out the other two days of Ramadan, the 23 and 25 day. They are:

23rd day of Ramadan is December 8, a Saturday

25th day of Ramadan is December 10, a Monday. This is also Hanukkah.

So, be on your 'P & Q's' December the 8th, 10th and 12th.

I keep reading this statement from various Islamic "spokesmen". But then I read the numerous accounts of parents and other family members of these Islamic suicide bombers who are elated that their family member or child has given his life for Allah by committing suicide and murder at the same time.

It was the date of the Camp David Accords and it was also the day that the Muslims were thrown back from the gates of Vienna by the Christians; the beginning of the long slide of Islamic power.

We would all like to know; however, as I posted in response when Gray Davis announced the threat on Californian bridges, the revelation of gathered intelligence will often compromise the source. One of the reasons terrorists operate in cells is to limit information (U.S. intelligence operates on the same basic compartmentalized, "need to know," principle.) To tell what you know about an enemies plan, may often reveal how that information was obtained.

Suppose if, in all the Islamic terrorist cells potentially operating in the U.S., we had turned just one source, we would reveal publically all the information divulged by that source. We would not have that source for long.

December 8th is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception--who is the Patron of the United States. Catholics (and Methodists) should pray some extra Rosaries during the coming days.
