LEAHY, DASCHLE & DNC - WASTING OUR $$ AND TIME - AGAIN!
VARIOUS MEDIA | 11/27/01 | SELF

Posted on 11/27/2001 9:01:56 AM PST by Elkiejg

I have been disgusted by the un-American acts of Sen. Leahy in his role on the Judiciary Comm. The media has been reporting that he has NOT been holding hearings on President Bush's judicial appointments. Now, Leahy has "demanded" that Ashcroft make an appearance so Leahy can get TV face time.

These political games are a waste of our tax money and valuable time that SHOULD be spent in working to find enemies of America and securing our country.

I sent the following email to DOJ addresses along with Congressional Aides AND to the White House. They need to hear from the public.

..............................

Subj: Senate holdup of judicial hearings

The American public is tired of Sen. Leahy and Daschle holding the judicial appointments hostage by not having hearings on President Bush's appointments. If the Democrats are demanding AG Ashcroft appear for their "witch hunt" hearing on detainees, then the DOJ and White House should tell them AFTER YOU HOLD THE JUDICIAL HEARINGS.......AND NOT BEFORE. It's time to play hardball with the Democratic Senators.

Just for your information:
The Judiciary Committee’s record this year shows that even with the war on terrorism, anthrax outbreaks in the Senate and the Senate changing hands three times this year, we are moving faster and on more judicial nominations than Republicans did in prior years. Since Sen. Leahy became chairman and the Senate Judiciary Committee was assigned its members in July, 18 judges were confirmed as of Nov. 14. This is 10 more than were confirmed by this same date in the first year of the Clinton Administration and eight more than were approved by this point in the first year of the first Bush Administration. Another 10 nominees have already had hearings and the total confirmations by the end of the year will approach 30, exceeding the total for the first year of the Clinton Administration and likely doubling the total for the first year of President Bush’s father.

Since the terrible events of Sept. 11, under the most trying and unusual of circumstances, we already have managed to hold five hearings for 21 nominees. In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks, Leahy chaired a confirmation hearing for two judicial nominees who drove to Washington for the hearing while all commercial flights remained grounded. On Oct. 4 we held another confirmation hearing on five judicial nominees. On Oct. 18, with all Senate office buildings closed and work disrupted by anthrax contamination, the committee kept working, borrowed a room in the Capitol and held another hearing for five more judicial nominees.

At the time the Republicans took charge of the Judiciary Committee in 1995, there were 65 judicial vacancies. When they turned over the gavel, we inherited 103 vacancies, which rose to a high of 111 by the time the Committee was organized and hearings could get underway. Under Republican control, judicial confirmations could take as long as four years before a Senate vote. In the recent past some nominees waited for more than four years without ever getting a hearing and still never got a vote.

....................

My reply back was she had better inform the national media since they were the ones reporting that NO confirmations had taken place!! I enjoyed her response - must have hit a nerve!!

If this president wasn't so concerned about the oil pipeline for his buddies he just might present to the people the REAL problems HERE AT HOME, such as opening Anwar, filling judgeships, fullfilling a campaign promise of a missile defense system, etc , etc. and just maybe the sheeple would demand it. His answers is to go out & spend monies many do not have & then expects the economy to rebound. The "Two-party Cartel' again playing the sheeple as fools & getting away with it 100%.

Mimi's response was the same as Leahy's letter to the editor of yesterday's Washington Times. So they can't even compose an email without help.

I find it curious that in the entire reply to you, all we get is the number of judicial vacancies at certain times, and the number of confirmations as compared to slick's first year. I wonder how many actual nominations slick made vs. how many GWB has made.

Also, note the high number of vacancies at the end of slick's term - doesn't seem like he was concerned about this issue (not much of a legacy builder)

Thanks. So strange the eerie coincidence of the timing of that subpoena. It was to be answered by
~5 p.m. 9-11-2001. . .

Maybe Ashcroft ought to turn the tables and serve a subpeona on Leahy. :-)
