GARDEN GROVE -- Mark Rosen was fuming after waiting in line for the Harry Potter movie, but he wasn't angry about the long wait.
It was the smokers puffing away around children that upset the Garden Grove councilman. Rosen plans to propose a local law at tonight's council meeting that would ban smoking in movie lines, parks and fast-food playgrounds.

"There were these adults smoking cigarettes in these lines, around kids who are basically captive, and if adults don't have sense enough to not smoke in those confined quarters, then we ought to have a law that enforces it," said Rosen. This shows his true intent. No smoking around children, so if you have children, no smoking at home. He also considers outdoors "confined quarters" so no smoking outside. So if you can't smoke inside and you can't smoke outside, this fellow wants to ban smoking period.

It's the only way they're ever going to learn how wrong they were to forsake rights and liberty.

I'm sure it's no fund standing near him in a line, either, hearing him whine about this, that, and the other.
To: Hans Moleman
this shows his true intenti agree with you. nobody is better apt to look after kids than their parents. parents will balance all implication in child raising and what is right. this is another case of the government telling how to raise my children.

Are we talking about 'smoker's rights', or 'rude smoker's rights' here?
I couldn't give a rat's a$$ if smokers want to kill themselves, heck, I wish they would smoke two at a time!
I just wish they would crawl into a hole as far from me as they can to do it -- rude bastards.

When you go out in public you're likely to run up against things you don't like: smoking and idiot councilmen among them.

What do you think you just made yourself out to be?
If someone is smoking near you, I'm willing to bet that if you ask politely, they will put it out.
Anecdotal as it is, MOST smokers of my acquaintance will bend over backwards to accomodate you in this manner, if you are polite about it.
Get in their face and they will get right back in yours.

If you can't smoke in line, then do some chew and spit on the sidewalk.
To: Hans Moleman
All these people drive cars right by kids all the time and a car puts out a lot more exhaust than any cigarette and has a much higher concentration of toxic chemicals.
To: CraigH
Craig, exactly. When you go out into the PUBLIC, that means ALL PEOPLE'S. The good , the bad, the ugly. Not the good, the bad, the ugly, but NO SMOKERS. You sure said it right!! The Public!

To: Hans Moleman
For Goodness' sake! Sometimes I honestly feel sorry for smokers. Like they're leppers or something. This Council"man" needs to shut up already. The kids were out in the open air! For victory & freedom!!!
To: OWK
I bet if I were to tell Mr Rosen that he shouldn't be allowed to expose children to Harry Potter, he'd become Captain Constitution.

Saundra! Your right! We are not only forced to the back of the bus, we are not even ALLOWED on the bus. ~sigh....

It's the only way they're ever going to learn how wrong they were to forsake rights and liberty. Awww, c'mon, OWK. Surely you know that (1) California is a communist state, and (2) the People of the Republik of Kalifornia have been brainwashed to the point where they'll never figure out what's going on.

"When you go out in public you're likely to run up against things you don't like: smoking and idiot councilmen among them." EXACTLY! But I would rather be locked in a bathysphere with a dozen chain-smokers than have to listen to one more moronic hack politician! (And I don't even smoke!)
