[history]
The Taliban militia is receiving military and other supplies covertly from Pakistan despite the Islamabad government's backing for American military operations, according to U.S. officials.
The military goods, including ammunition and fuel, are being sent with the help of elements of the Pakistani government, said officials familiar with intelligence reports of the transfers.

You don't need this to understand
the farce of the "war against Bin Laden". Just think about this :
- Pakistan - the co-creator of the Taliban - the only country bordering Afghanistan participating in the US military deployment
- all NATO countries have their borders still totally open and the visas are still being issued.
If you still have no answer to the key questions get the

Sounds like a good opportunity for a special forces "training mission".

This is a huge development. They are giving the terrorists military aid. We have to send in our guys now and take out their nuclear capabilities. We have to run our missions (which should now include Pakistan as a target) from Turkey or elsewhere. I do not see any politician being able to spin this one away.

I don't think there is any doubt that there are elements in Pakistan, including some within the government, military, and secret police, who are sympathetic to the Taliban. I don't think Musharraf condones that, and his actions to date have been decisively against that.
I doubt sincerely whether this is having a significant beneficial effect for the Taliban, and we ought to cut it off by attacking anything resembling a convoy with attack helicopters or other means. We have to be careful, though, not to attack trucks carrying legitimate aid from relief agencies.
If anything, what this demonstrates is the peril that Musharraf is in from his own people. He is on our side, and he controls the government with an iron fist. There are obviously those who disagree with him, and I hope his security cannot be penetrated by those whose allegiance is elsewhere.

It could not be learned whether the illicit trade is approved by the Pakistan government or is taking place behind the back of Gen. Musharraf.Remember, that Musharraf is trying to haul cats in a wheel barrel. This is a polarizing issue with Pakistan. But our intelligence, with the help of Israel and Turkey, will get down to the bottom of it. Musharrif will either arrest the culprits or expose himself.

"We have to be careful, though, not to attack trucks carrying legitimate aid from relief agencies."
Agreed, but a clear warning that anything travelling at night is subject to unrestricted attack should cut that down.
Also, some "aid workers" could report on smugglers who change tactics and move by daylight. As the Israelis have demonstrated recently a laser dot can be very specific in target selection of a single vehicle.

India offered us bases in Sept. Maybe we should take those bases and start by bombing these Pakis. After all you have to protect your rear first. Other than Turkey we have NO muslim friends. We have muslim "allies" who will drop us as soon as we stop sending them money, e.g. Egypt, Pakistan.

Could be good for us though. Maybe we/they sent dud ammo w/ homing beacons in the crates. Just trying a little optomism here. The Taliban should consider this possibility though w/ ever shipment that gets through if they have least amount of common sense.

Well, well, well. Welcome to the murky world of the Middle East and South Asia.
Anyone and anything can be bought off with a nominal price.
The real key will be keeping the Northern Alliance under Civilized Western Control if they seize power, as there is no telling they, themselves, will not become suitcase nuke-carrying, anthrax-spreading suicidal anti-US mujahadeen in the 2010s.
Allah Akhbar.

What's the big deal here?
Pak is certainly playing a double game with US. Accepting the money from US and funding Taliban to fight US.

`Maybe we/they sent dud ammo If we were/are doing that I'd think we'd want to send "hot" ammo instead - ie something that's going to blow up in the chamber when it's fired.

No reason that the partition of the Indian subcontinent that led to the creation of West and East (now Bangladesh) Pakistan can't be reversed...
