More power to them! Let them follow every trail they can to stamp out this evil. If a few perverts give up their activities because they are afraid of being discovered--good! Those of us who have nothing to be ashamed of don't mind sharing our lives with the FBI.

I am curious. How many people are left with the impression from this article that Stewart Baker is against the FBI's plan?

While we're at it, we need to get rid of encryption too! Terrorists could be using strong uncrackable encryption to send their Internet messages, encryption that could fly undetected right past the FBI's tracking software. If you're encrypting something, then you're obviously hiding something.

Sarcasm alert for the intelligence impaired: The above statement is intended as sarcasm. If you are unfamiliar with the word sarcasm or its uses then you may wish to look into the definition. Please insure that you fully understand the meaning of the word sarcasm and understand that the above statement is intended as an example of such before responding to it.

That having been said, click here to download PGP's freeware. The bad guys already have it; why shouldn't you?

Agreed. How long before anyone using encryption is labeled as a 'suspected terrorist'? How long before anyone who decries this humonguous increase in police powers is declared a 'suspected terrorist'?

Just how do you un-invent encryption? Or did you forget to close a sarcasm tag?

My question: with responsible people in charge, this could turn out fine. What happens if the First Bitch comes to office and exploits this power?

Well, I guess the 50,000 or so posters on FR will get a check up soon from the Female Body Inspectors.

Yawn.

This story isn't news to anyone who has paid attention at all over the last three years.

What? You support the use of such subversive programs that would hinder law-enforcement efforts to crack down on terrorism? What next, suggesting that people lock their doors so that police may not enter whenever they wish to search for criminal activity?

Don't you understand why such laws are needed? Think about it, a terrorist wants to send a message to his partners regarding their next attack, but he realises suddenly that encryption is illegal! Surely laws such as these will dissuade many would-be terrorists who do not wish to break the law.

the FBI has plans to change the architecture of the Internet and route traffic through central servers that it would be able to monitor e-mail more easily.

Isn't that just special?

How long until we have to be approved for our internet licenses? And our papers for travelling? And the TV cameras in our houses? Just to be safe, you know. After all, if you're doing nothing wrong you have nothing to fear, right?

And how long before your neighbor across the street who is really a butt and who never has liked you reports you to the Gestapo as a possible terrorist?

A big piece of what little freedom we had left died today with a stroke of Bush's pen.
