Israeli rights group slams West Bank incursion | |
JERUSALEM, Oct 25 (Reuters) - An Israeli human rights group on Thursday called the Israeli army's seizure of Palestinian-ruled areas in the West Bank an indiscriminate assault against hundreds of thousands of civilians. The B'Tselem group, in an interim report on the week-long incursion, accused the army of having an "itchy trigger finger". The report said 21 Palestinian civilians, including five minors and four women, had been killed as of Wednesday. "Security justifications cannot excuse a widescale assault on hundreds of thousands of civilians," B'Tselem said. "An indiscriminate assault on this scale constitutes collective punishment, forbidden under international law." In what it called an anti-terror campaign, Israel moved forces into or around six West Bank cities after gunmen from a radical Palestinian group assassinated an Israeli cabinet minister in retaliation for Israel's killing of its leader in August. During the operation, B'Tselem said, the army had demonstrated a disregard for human life. Responding to the report, the Israeli army said it was doing everything in its power to avoid harming civilians or firing towards populated areas. "The Palestinians, however, fire at Israeli soldiers from within populated areas, and therefore directly endanger the lives of Palestinian civilians," the army said. The report also targeted blockades imposed by Israel on most West Bank cities, calling them "unprecedented in their severity". The travel restrictions "obstruct access to medical treatment and cause a shortage of food in a number of places", it said. Israel says the blockades are needed to prevent attacks. The Palestinians say they are a collective punishment. B'Tselem wrote the report before Israel's raid on Wednesday on a West Bank village which the army said harboured militants involved in the assassination last week of far-right Tourism Minister Rehavam Zeevi. The army said it killed five armed Palestinians in the operation, which the Palestinian Authority described as a massacre. The United States, which wants to calm a year of Israeli-Palestinian violence as it tries to garner Arab support for its war in Afghanistan, has demanded Israel withdraw its troops from Palestinian territory. Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon planned to meet senior ministers later in the day to discuss a pullout. ((Jerusalem Bureau, +972-2-537-0502, jerusalem.newsroom@reuters.com)) 25 OCT 2001 12:45:35
The Palestinians are getting what they deserve for all their hatred and bloodshed.
Israeli-Arab Lefty peacenik whiners. Think PETA.
Except Ay-rab Commies, who are unwittingly destroying the source of their own ideology by warring against "the serpent race." And except for the Jewish Commies in Israel who support them, for the same reason.
Why don't you call for your "anti-Communist" Arab heroes to go to South Africa and help the Afrikaners liberate it from Jewish Communism (the bad kind, not the good kind like you support) set up an "aryan" state?
But of course, since no Jew-hater has ever answered a straight question in the history of the world, I'm sure not expecting any from you.
Wow, you didn't have to use your entire derogatory repertoire up all in one post.
Don't you guys usually spread it out a little?
Yep, I was right! ;-)
Now, now, now. I meant I was right about your not answering a simple question with a simple, honest answer. And you know it. You're just continuing to obfuscate.
You know, any one of you anti-Zionists who use up so much bandwidth supporting Arab Communist revolution in the Middle East could, if you were of such a mind, simply explain in simple, straightforward terms just why support of Arab Communists against Israel is consistent with your anti-Communist,anti-Third World liberation positions in every other spot on the globe. The only reason you don't is because you can't.
As I said to Justin yesterday, anyone who is consistently anti-colonialist and anti-war will be on the left. The only reason anyone on a rightwing forum suddenly and magically switches sides on the sole issue of Israel obviously does so because he/she believes the destruction of Israel will somehow cause Communism/Leftism to go out in a puff of smoke all over the world.
BTW, while we're moaning and groaning about splattered babies' heads (as long as they don't belong to "Communist Blacks" in South Africa or Communist Asians in Vietnam--those people deserved it for being commies whereas Arabs are useful to our purposes), what do you make of all those poor Canaanite children who were cheiremed and exterminated by Yehoshua` Bin Nun (that's Joshua to you Biblical illiterates?). Amazing how many opponents of "Jewish aggression" never mention that as a display of arrogance that led directly to the "occupation" of "palestine" today. Could it because we don't want to let the pagan cat out of the bag and offend those "useful idiots" among the chr*stians who believe that the Biblical Israelites don't count as Jews because they were the "proto-church?"
But of course, since no "conservative" opponent of Israel has ever answered a straight question in the history of the world, I'm sure not expecting any from you. ;-)
Beam me up.
I rest my case!
