CALIFORNIA DREAMIN'
National Guard Has No Ammo.

by a KeepAndBearArms.com LA correspondent

October 15, 2001

KeepAndBearArms.com -- If you ever wondered if California was really La-La Land, really the ultimate PC state, wonder no more. California Governor Gray Davis is so "politically correct" he apparently doesn't believe in arming the very people he sends in harm's way to defend the citizens of his state. (State Governors oversee the National Guard in each state.)

No Magazines in the National Guard's Guns at Orange County's Airport:

Gov. Gray Davis fails
California citizens once again.

If you look at the photo below from last Saturday's Los Angeles Times (click for enlargement), first brought to our attention by Citizens Of America creative director Jim Houck, you can see that the guardsman is holding a rifle with no ammunition magazine. At most, this rifle has one cartridge in the chamber, but that is extremely doubtful.

The message this photo sends to terrorists and copy-cat lunatics:

This California airport is NOT protected by armed Guardsmen.

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER

1) What happens if the guardsman actually needs to use his firearm to defend the people he is there to defend? Is he supposed to use it as a club?

2) Is the entire staff of the L.A. Times so ignorant about guns that they didn't realize they were exposing an obvious flaw in Governor Davis' "protective measures" at the airport? Didn't anybody on the Times' staff realize the message the Times was sending when they printed this picture?

3) What is the real reason the National Guardsmen at this airport are carrying empty guns?

4) Who were all of the people involved in making the decision to assure that these guardsmen were carrying what amount to expensive clubs? Are they guilty of dereliction of duty? If so, if something happens at the airport that requires an armed response and results in loss of life due to the Guardsmen's inability to respond with armed force, can those responsible for emasculating the Guardsmen be held legally and criminally liable?

5) Does anybody actually think a terrorist wouldn't see an empty gun with a single glance? If a terrorist immediately sees that a gun is empty, is he supposed to be afraid, perhaps because the guy holding it is wearing a military outfit and hold a fancy club?

NOTE: If this information was emailed to you, we include the following link to the enlarged picture showing a neutered "guardsman" in order to let you draw your own conclusions: http://www.KeepAndBearArms.com/images/unarmed_Nat_Guard.jpg.

ACTION: If you would like to call the L.A. Times and urge them to address the issue of unarmed "guards" "guarding" the airport, here is the number to their newsdesk: (213) 237-5000.  You can also contact Gov. Davis:

The National Guard in New York airports have no bullets either. The gun grabbers just won't admit, that they were wrong. How many thousands more will have to be killed, before people realize that self defense is a personal responsibility? The government can't protect you. You have to do it yourself!

This can't be ... I have to believe that they were in structed to keep the magazine "out" for safety sake.

I can't believe that they have NO magazines ..

This needs to be verified

Neal Boortz compared this to Barney Fife in the Andy Griffith Show. Talk about feeling silly. The national guards have to use their guns like clubs. "Stop or I'll club you to death!"

About 30 years ago, my husband was in the NC National Guard and was called out because of race riots. They were sent out on the streets, the targets of sniper fire, with no officially-issued ammo. That does NOT mean that they didn't have any ...... but what they had was not provided by the state.

Therefore, I find this story very credible, unfortunately.

Remember, this is what happened in the suicide bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon. No ammo in rifle.

Don't count on being "protected" by the emasculated military. Won't happen. Col. Hackworth has even written about the no-ammo policy.

The California Natl. Guard showed up to the 1992 LA Riots with *no* ammo. None.

An emergency trip from the San Bernardino armory at the blazing speed of a 5-ton truck brought enough for *one* bullet per soldier. The local gun shops were giving them all the 5.56mm ammo they had to give them a few more rounds.

The Marines finally drove up from Camp Pendleton on the second day, and they *were* armed. They gave the 'Guard retards enough ammo. The next night, the riot was over.

For the first day of the LA Riot, I had more 5.56mm (M-16 ammo) in my closet than the entire Natl. Guard had in the Los Angeles area.

The National Guard is NOT the 'Militia', and evidently nothing has changed since 1992 -- even after America has been attacked on our domestic shores.

Don't come to my state (Nebraska) Unlike Kalifornia our guardsmen have bullets and know how to use them. Not having loaded weapons is just plain stupid. Although in my military career I have done it. We are playing for all the marbles now and there is no margin for error. Contact your state Gov and tell him to instruct the state Adjutant General to fully arm your states soldiers. Beleive me they are highly Trained, Motivated and up to the task.

I can't imagine how having an unloaded weapon would increase safety. I wonder how many of those M-16's have been stolen? It's hard to imagine someone standing around too long with one at LAX, and not having it ripped off.

This raises the possibility of having the guardsman robbed of his M-16 by someone who is actually armed and potentially in possession of a loaded magazine ready to install in the confiscated rifle. Just plain DUMB!

It sure makes the terrorists job easier. All they have to do is show up at the airport with their box cutters and ammo, grab a M-16, and they're armed with a select fire weapon and ready to terrorize.

I don't believe that the guard needs to be carrying automatic weapons in these airports. The NG generally does not have sufficent law enforcement training to be carrying loaded unholstered weapons in such a confined space. Their presence there is just to make the sheep feel safe.

If they are there to prevent hijackings they can backup the security personnel on the X-ray machines and help with baggage searches but no one is going to be prevented from hijacking a plane because the NG is carrying loaded weapons. If someone would get by security and it was discovered, the airport would be locked down and no planes would leave. If they were trained and actually flying as air marshalls then I would agree that they should be armed appropriately.

If the NG was posted outside to prevent car bombings etc. then I would understand loaded automatic weapons.

As you can tell by my screen name, I am an advocate of the 2nd Amendment but I am also concerned about living in a police state with the military having too much control over domestic affairs.

That being said, flame away.

No point in posting guard troops with no ammo. I suppose 20 Barney Fifes are going to add to security by giving some idiot "piece of mind", but little else. By the way, they do receive training, but probably not enough. So what! Give them bullets or get them out of there.

The Guardsman is carrying an A-1 configuration as well. I wasn't even alive when that thing was made. Think he knows how to sight it in?
