Congressman Roscoe Bartlett has rescheduled the citizens’ Truth-in-Taxation hearing for February 27 and 28, 2002.
The hearing will be held at the nation’s Capital in the House Science and Technology Committee Hearing Room, (Rayburn House Office Building), beginning at 9 a.m. each day.
The IRS and Department of Justice will officially and publicly answer detailed legal allegations directly challenging the jurisdiction of the IRS and the unlawful enforcement and administration of U.S. income tax laws.
The hearing is in response to a formal petition to the government from Bob Schulz, Chairman of the We The People Foundation for Constitutional Education.
In a letter to Schulz dated October 12, 2001, Congressman Bartlett reaffirmed his belief that it is his duty as an elected member of Congress to ensure that our government timely and properly responds to a citizens’ petition for a redress of grievances.

Dear Mr. Schulz,
I hope you are well and fully recovered from any ill effects occasioned by your fast that has focused attention on this matter of great public importance. Your country owes you a debt of gratitude for your willingness to risk everything in this effort.
The constitution that I loved and have sworn to uphold and defend grants citizens the right to petition our government for redress of grievances. It is my duty as an elected representative to the United States Congress to ensure that once a petition, such as yours, is properly framed, our government timely and properly responds.
To that end, I fully supported you in July to arrange a formal two-day public forum where the Department of Justice and the IRS would respond under oath. However, the events of September 11, 2001 caused the need for a delay. I greatly appreciated your Foundation’s respect for my duties as a member of congress, including my role on the Armed Services Committee and the Special Panel of Terrorism. Yesterday you explained to me that the Foundation’s members and supporters have been understanding and fully supportive during this delay. Please convey my concern for the inconvenience to them caused by the delay and my appreciation for their understanding.
Now it is critical for the Congress to resume its business. An important domestic matter to address is the alleged fraudulent and illegal operations of the federal income tax system.
Our country has labored under a federal income tax system that is inconsistent with the liberty of a free people. Quite simply, the government of a free people should not tax the labor of its citizens, and it is imperative that the federal tax system not be repugnant (contrary) to the Constitution and its laws. Most of Congress now agrees. As you know, over the past three years, several bills have been introduced in both the House of Representatives and the Senate that would abolish the federal income tax. Two hundred eighty-two (282) Representatives and Senators supported these measures either as sponsors, cosponsors, or by casting a formal vote on the floor of the Congress, that is more than half of the entire Congress.
I fully support your inquiry and pray for the day when my children and grandchildren will enjoy the full measure of liberty bequeathed to them by our founders.
We have re-scheduled the forum (symposium) for February 27 and 28 in the Science and Technology Committee Hearing Room in the Rayburn House Office Building beginning at 9:00 a.m. each day. A letter of support and confirmation signed by myself and other members of Congress has been drafted, circulated, and will be sent to officials at the Department of Justice, Treasury and the IRS, informing them of the dates and times and requiring their attendance. I will personally chair the event and have invited other members of Congress to attend and sit on the panel.
Bob, I know you have made great personal sacrifices and that the members and researchers of the Foundation have contributed untold labor and time in preparation for this event. I thank you and them for their service. You have my word as an elected member of the United States Congress that I will do all within my power that this event go forward, the IRS and the DOJ attend as they have promised to do, and are compelled to do by the Constitution.

Anyway, you're right, this is a grassroots effort. I was hoping that I could get those NRST folks over here to spam this thread with their mumbo jumbo so it could get more appearance. It's just depressing when you put fliers in the library next to the gay summer camp and black pride ones and they throw them out for being offensive.
