A HAMSTER was rescued after being seen running along the hard shoulder of the M6 inside a plastic exercise ball.
Motorists alerted the RSPCA to pick up the hamster at Spaghetti Junction in Birmingham.
James Brown, an animal care assistant with the RSPCA, who have named the hamster "Roly", said: "We believe he was probably thrown out of a car by accident although the exercise ball wasn't damaged."
Roly is now resting at an RSPCA refuge in Birmingham.

I'm surprised that the British cops didn't issue "Roly" a ticket for operating an unlicensed vehicle on the public roadways.

Whenever you are confused about a strange hamster encounter, try this site:
ASK DR HAMSTER
but as he cautions you:
Dr. Hamster doesn't actually know that much about caring for small rodents.
Some of Dr Hamster's Advice:
Top Ten Ways in Which You Can Tell Your Hamster Friend is Sick:
10. His nose is wet and cold. (Or is it dry and warm? I always forget that one... never mind. Better to stay away from his nose altogether.)
9. Her fur is green.
8. She tells you she has a hankering for McDonald's.
7. He eats your five-alarm chili and says he can't taste it.
6. He indicates he has made an appointment with his preferred provider.
5. She has called in to sick 3 days consecutively... and it's not even sunny outside.
4. The trashcans in your bedroom are filled with tiny crumpled facial tissues.
3. He is quoting Jerry Springer's "Final Word."
2. Her temperature is up an average of 2.3% over the course of 24 hours.
and the number 1 way you can tell your hamster is ill:
1. Two words: country music.

I just read this article and posted onto "Hamster Dance". After a week of horror and sadness, this article and the subsequent "singing" hamsters has actually made me laugh. Thanks for a much needed smile....

Reminds me of one of my sister's childhood friends. She took her hamster (in the ball) to the top of a large hill on a gravel road and sent the poor critter spinning down. He bounced off of rocks and finally ended up off the shoulder in a sad little heap. Needless to say, that pet did not have a long life.
