Was UAL Flight 93 Shot Down By US Fighter?
By Ian Goddard Ian@Goddard.net
9-14-1
Yesterday (9/13/01) a Reuters report stated that the FBI cannot rule out that hijacked Flight 93 was shot down by a US fighter jet before it crashed in Pennsylvania. [1] Citing indications of a shoot down, the report states:
"Pennsylvania state police officials said on Thursday debris from the plane had been found up to 8 miles away [from the crash site] in a residential community where local media have quoted residents as speaking of a second plane in the area and burning debris falling from the sky."
Finding debris miles from the crash site indicates that the aircraft was disintegrating well before it hit the ground, as would be the case if the other plane witnesses saw shot it down. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the debris found miles from the crash site included "clothing, books, papers and what appeared to be human remains." [2] The secretary of defense says Flight 93 was not shot down.[3]
While major media have widely reported that a frantic 911 call was made from Flight 93 stating "We are being hijacked, We are being hijacked," a local Pennsylvania paper reports that the passenger also reported hearing an explosion and seeing smoke coming from the plane, consistent with a shoot down. As the Somerest, PA paper The Daily American states:
"[A] passenger locked in a bathroom aboard United Flight 93 called the 911 ... 'We are being hijacked, we are being hijacked!' dispatch supervisor Glenn Cramer from Westmoreland County quoted the man from a transcript of the call. The man told dispatchers the plane 'was going down. He heard some sort of explosion and saw white smoke coming from the plane and we lost contact with him,' Cramer said." [4]
So we have (1) witness accounts of a second plane in the area, (2) burning debris falling, (3) debris falling up to 8 miles from the crash site, (4) human remains falling miles from the crash site, and (5) reports from a passenger that an explosion was heard near the plane and white smoke was coming from the plane. Do these facts support early reports that Flight 93 was shot down by a US fighter jet? Could the the terrorists have smuggled in and detonated a bomb? At the least these facts appear to be inconsistent with the leading scenario being played in the media that the plane crashed as a result of a struggle for control on board the doomed flight.
Assuming the aircraft was shot down, under the circumstances -- other hijackers reasonably connected to the hijackers on Flight 93 using other jets to cause massive casualties on the ground -- it would be difficult to define the act unethical. Indeed, it would have arguably been an heroic act. However, the wrong would be lying to the public about what happened.

Clinton would have lied about this in a clinton minute. If the plane was shot down, that should be made public. In the circumstances it may well have been the right thing to do. I believe that the American people are capable of understanding the reasons behind such an action. In any case, we have had enough coverups from the sleazebag who ran things for the past eight years.

If the airliner had been shot down there would have been cell phone confirmation of it.

There was.
Did you not see the part about the cell phone caller who stated that there was an explosion during his phone call?

In light of the events, Whether or not the plane was shot down or forced down by passengers or even blown up by a terrorist bomb is trivial and nearly moot.
The only issue for us to focus on is the attack on our way of life for no other reason than because we are Americans. THAT is the only true WRONG!

I live 20 miles from the crash site and I have yet to hear an eyewitness report of flaming debris. Every person interviewed saw an intact plane hit the ground.
Please quit the idle speculation.

Wake up and smell the cordite, Moo.

We also have reports that they had a bomb on board, and it's my understanding the last contact was via cell phone as some of the men decided to try and overtake the terrorists, and two minutes later the plane crashed. One of the guys while talking with his parents left the cell phone on while they went to overtake them, and they (the parents) even think they heard the actual crash. So, there is evidence on both sides. Although I have no problem if we indeed shot it down, I like the idea that "heroes" saved us much better.

A cell phone caller also said the hijackers said they had a bomb.

Please quit the idle speculation Oh, I see. You have all the facts and no one else can speculate, or pass on speculation on anything but the gov line of facts and the hero story
Maybe you could benefit from a rectal de-cranium procedure.

You know, I don't know what I want to think about this. Where should I dwell? The brave men who voted to make sure the jet did not reach it's target or somebody shooting it down before it reached its intended target? If the later is the case then how do you think that person felt who had to push the button? Knowing there were innocent civilians on board. How do we know that there was not a bomb on board and the hijackers set it off?
I don't think I am in the mood to go after the government on this one.

Why the heck wouldn't the Department of Defense make it common knowledge if they shot down the airplane. What kind of idiot would try to start some conspiracy about these events at this time. Nevermind, I think I know the answer to that question.....

Since it would be foolish to shoot it down and expect to cover it up, and Ashcroft has unequivocally stated that it was not shot down, the plausible scenarios are:
1. Bomb blast blew out some people and debris, and the plane proceeded several more miles before impacting.
2. Passengers opened a door to try to keep the plane from flying onto a target. This would possibly cause some debris to fly out, generate a loud noise, and cause fogging due to the decompression or dust/debris.
Only speculation

Don't think so. The airplane hit intact. All the debris was found in the crater with the exception of some paper that blew away. The impact crater is pretty convincing IMO.

Does it matter??? Any way you look at it...they were doomed...they were gonna hit earth without a runway or landing gear.

No doubt there is a lot of misinformation going around in the media in these confusing days. I wouldn't take as fact many things you are hearing about until they can be confirmed as true. This will take time.
I know FR has its share of CTs, but this is no time to engage in that particular hobby. By waiting you will have many more "facts" to work with in constructing your CTs.
