Wow. I truly had forgotten how much Hollywood was involved in World War II. Many of these stories I had never heard. Thank you VERY much, SamWolf.

My father had the utmost respect for many of the actors of his generation. I never really understood it, since respect was the last thing I thought of regarding the actors of my youth (60's and 70's). I knew about Jimmy Stewart, and heard stories about the time my father saw Bob Hope in Europe and in Vietnam. He especially appreciated the ladies that accompanied him. Once, back in the States, after Vietnam, during one of Bob's USO specials he made a comment about the ladies that earned him a pillow hard to the face from my Mom.

Noting Bob's trips to Vietnam, have any modern actors rushed in to fill the void with the USO that he left? Sure some went to Bosnia, but who among Hollywood is really a friend of the military today?
