I was a Recon Platoon Leader in an Air Cavalry Squadron operating in the Dak To area when this happened. I heard that there was some trouble in I Corps. We had one air troop and a CH-47 company from the aviation battalion stationed with us at Pleiku supporting Lam Son 719, so we were paying attention to what was going on up north.

A minor point CAPT is the abbreviation for a Navy Captain (O-6) equivalent of an Army or Air Force full bird colonel. CPT is the correct abbreviation for an Army/Air Force/USMC Captain (0-3).
