You mean the prize wasn’t there when you came in? Just being part of the Foxhole is a prize, isn’t it? ;-)

Really enjoyed the visit and it was great to finally meet you guys. After reviewing the photos I just can’t help but say, “What a swanky looking young aviator”.

It was nice meeting you USArmy EOD. You're the first person in a long, long time who didn't give me a blank stare when Avalon Hill and SSI came up in a conversation.
:-)
Thanks for an afternoon of interesting conversation and hopefully we can get together again soon.

A quick note on the plane for all interested. It is a Quicksilver GT400, it has a Rotax 503 engine. she will cruise at about 65 mph, has a range of a little over 100 miles, will climb 1500 fpm, is radio equipped, has a Garmin 96C Sat Nav and so far I have had to replace the landing gear only once.
I found out the hard way that it doesn’t not land like a Cessna 172, chop the power a bit and flair the nose up and it instantly becomes a rock. Little power, little mass, and a lot of drag is not a good combination.

I was surprised at how quickly you went wheels up. I envisioned you going almost the length of the runway but you were up right quick.

She will climb. On a hard surface, it will probably get off the gound in less than 60 feet or so.
To: PROCON
And how are you. If I flew out, it would take me until April to make it.
To: U S Army EOD
I'm fine!
Fuel 'er up, it's April 19th, location still to be determined, just aim towards Oregon!!
Coordinates to follow!!

That looks like a hoot to fly. We’ve got a Lucky Lindy over here on the Big Island who has an UL similar to yours....except for the fairing around the pilot’s seat. Lot slower too. Clocked him at about 45 mph.

Some people have put the HKS 60 hp, four cycle engine on the GT 400 and cruise at 90 mph. Although Quicksilver says Vne is 73 mph, they say they have tested it over 90 mph with no problem.
What is interesting about this one is the fact that it has a yoke and four position flaps. You don’t see many small aircraft like that. Even if you strip it down, you can’t get it down to the Ultralight weight, so it has to be N numbered.

A fine report from the field.
I would really have liked to have been there for this one.
