Coyotes have apparently spread east since about 1900. This partly because wolves and mountain lions were killed off and/or could not adapt to agricultural and urban areas. Coyotes are not found in 49 states, as far south as Panama, and in cities and suburbs.

Do not appreciate them. They kill pets.
Cities should control them.

I live in Arizona so I see these guys all the time. Roadrunners too. Though I’ve yet to see a coyote chasing a roadrunner.

Here in the West they are semi-commercially hunted for their pelts.
Weather and timing are important but prime hides can earn a nice sum.
Not easy work, and if you cannot handle skinning them forget it.
Coyote coats are expensive.

I most places coyotes are considered nuisance animals to be hunted all year with no bag limit. But they are not easy to get.
Here is Phoenix, we have “no gun discharge within city limits” law.
So they are practically unreachable. They roam the city, kill dogs, cats and rabbits.
Does somebody has an idea how to get them under these circumstances?

Is this about 4-legged coyotes or the 2-legged variety?

We shoot them on sight when out deer hunting here in PA. The PGC has
added them to the 'Varmint' list so it is open season. My 300 Savage makes
a mess of them.

It’s a potential problem for me. Being an amateur astronomer, I need to get out in the country under dark skies if I want to see more than planets and bright stars. Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin are definitely coyote country.
Also sightings of possible mountain lions an even a bear.
Part of my astronomy gear anymore is my 9mm handgun.
Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it…

Filthy creatures.
They are open season here. And if you cut off a right ear and send it in the state will pay a bounty. However as a hunter friend told me...coyotes are so vermin filled that as the hunter approaches the cooling body to get the ear the vermin will jump onto him. Not worth the 25 bucks.
So now they just shoot and leave them.
