We had our reasons, but the United States very much assisted wiht metastasizing the more virulent forms if Islam as a deliberate cold war strategy. The calculation from the 40’s through the 80’s was that Radical Islam in forms such as the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and the Mjuahedeen in Afghanistan were of more use as allies against the communists than they were a threat. Plenty of documentation, have to get to work but I’ll try to put a few links together later.
My original point- while pure ‘isolationism’ isn’t really possible or wise, picking winners and losers in foreign policy should be looked at almost as distastefully as picking winners and losers in the economy. The government that we conservatives do NOT trust doesn’t gain some magical competence at the waters’ edge, and short term moves that make sense in a timeframe of a few years, such as arming and assisting those fighting the Soviets in Afghanistan, have much longer term blowback.

islam has been trying to kill Jews and Christians for over 1000 years, it is nothing new. They always have some convoluted reason to do so and there are those who always come up with some reason that it is our fault.
