QUESTION: It is true I don't find lots of verses and words in my NIV. But a lot of times I find the words in the footnotes. Isn't that good enough?

Amen.

They should have the integrity to make a choice and present a text. Roll the dice and live with the number.
Cut out the footnotes. These guys like to hedge their bets.
They should show a little backbone.

They should have the integrity to make a choice and present a text. They have made a choice. They put it in the text. Most people don't read the footnotes (which are sometimes very helpful) anyway. I don't see problem at all.

The problem is that they won't come down someplace. The footnotes are a waffle.
"It could be this....but it could be that."
President Bush is riding the wave because he's willing to take a stand. Would that bible scholars show the same courage.

Do you believe that certain translations are inspired or just the original texts?

God has to be able to get his message to the thickest clod on the block.
A translation has to be inspired.

Jack Chick is Satan's minion.

All Scripture, not all translations. IOW the original is God-breathed.

You're focusing on the "all" and not on the "useful."
It must be "useful" cross-culturally since the command was to "go into all the world."
It MUST be able to be "usefully" transmitted.

Sorry, no. I'm focusing on the "Scripture" and you are attempting to turn that into a specific translation of Scripture. There is no doubt that God is powerful enough to use even a bad translation to spread the seed of the gospel. But that doesn't make it inspired, it would more properly termed "blessed" IMO.

"It must be "useful" cross-culturally since the command was to "go into all the world." " Rev 14:6
KJV: And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
NASB: And I saw another angel flying in midheaven, having an eternal gospel to preach to those who live on the earth, and to every nation and tribe and tongue and people;
NIV: Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth--to every nation, tribe, language and people.
Yes, it is to go out in to ALL the world in EVERY tongue or language! Not just Elizabethan English. We, in North America, don't speak that form of English any more than we speak the Irish form of English!
I would suggest that a Bible translation in Modern English could be considered far more useful to Modern English speaking people than 400 year old Elizabethan English would be.

If you think I'm arguing for a single translation being the correct translation, then you haven't read the beginning of this thread.
What I said was I don't like the footnotes. I want them to make a decision and not have wishy-washy fallback positions.
Make a decision.

Personally I like the footnotes in any Bible - it gives me more information. I don't consider it wishy-washy to put footnotes in the Bible; what they're telling us is different manuscripts may have a different spelling or wording in that passage.
Have you guys checked or heard anything about the NET (New English Translation) Bible? Windows users can download a copy for free here. I don't know enough about the NET to recommend it. So far it looks good.
Here's Rev 14:6
Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, and he had an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earthto every nation, tribe, language, and people.
