Years ago, I received a notice from the IRS that I owed them $1600.00. This "calculation" occurred over ten years earlier, and was due to a "math error on the schedule C". According to them, I had calculated my business deductions incorrectly, and now owed them this money, including interest and penalties that had built up over the whole time. I immediately called the number on the letter and told them that I had always been told to hang on to my returns for only seven years. The person on the phone said that they just discovered the error, and it was too bad that I didn't save my documents from fourteen years ago so I could check my math. I was without recourse. The amount was too small to engage a tax attorney for, but much more than I could afford. I had to work out a payment plan, which also included interest, and ended up paying much more than the original (alleged)math error.

I wish I had still had the original forms so I could have been in a better position to negotiate, but I can't imagine using that much of my small living space to store decade's of receipts and IRS forms. I just had to take their word for it.

In ancient times, decrees, forms, and receipts were inscribed on clay tablets, and then dried or baked to form a permanent record. One of the most remarkable examples of this is the Cyrus Cylinder. Persian People consider this to be one of the earliest declaration of Human Rights (ironic since neither the Shah's Regime nor the current atrocity in Iran have anything to do with "Human Rights", but I digress). Both Christian and Jewish Scholars see the Cyrus Cylinder as an example of the King's magnanimity, as stated in Ezra, Nehemiah, Isaiah, and the writer of 2 Chronicles. Isaiah prophesied that Cyrus would rebuild the Temple that was destroyed by the Babylonians, and this is fulfilled in History and well as Scripture.

The Prophet Daniel gives us an additional prophecy about this decree of Cyrus that has caused controversy and discussion up to this very day.

Daniel mentions the Decree, which was yet to happen. From the day the decree goes out, Daniel prophecies, there will be a specific time period until "Messiah the Prince" is CUT OFF. History shows that , as far as we can deduce from reports of the time, the Crucifixion of Christ coincides with Daniel's timetable. There is still a week to go in prophecy, known as "Daniel's Seventieth Week". The disagreements on this week of 7 years is so disputed that it would take a book just to explain all the different opinions!

The fulfillment of prophecy is usually only recognized after it has taken place. Up until then, there are lots of interpretations.

Today's Name is "Messiah". This is an English translation of the word מָשִׁ֣יחַ (meshiah), which means "Anointed". Kings and Priests were anointed with oil, consecrating them for service. The word "Christ" also means "anointed" but comes from the Greek language. But Daniel isn't talking about any priest or King in this Passage. He speaks of THE Messiah, who will be "Cut Off", and was accurate about the timeline leading up to that fateful day.

Oh, thank You Lord Jesus, my heavenly Vine, for the fullness of Your blessing towards me. I want to know and understand more and more of what it means to simply rest in You. May I abide in You, in sweet union with my Saviour and remain in blessed communion with You in ever closer intimacy.

Teach me, Lord, and train me to rest in Your love. Guard me and guide under the shelter of Your canopy, and reveal more and more of Yourself to me I pray,
