Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

The Names and Titles of God (Judge, lawgiver, and King)

Isaiah 33:22:

22 For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; he will save us.

The King James Version

Maria fled Venezuela while Hugo Chavez was in power. Her family had been well-off prior to Chavez taking power, and now found life intolerable under the dictatorship. She and her family fled to Florida and entered the country legally, going through the correct process, and Maria was thrilled that her grandchildren would be born into freedom. Although Maria was almost 80, she wanted to be a citizen too. She studied and struggled and finally was able to take the Test (in English, Bless Her Heart!) On the day she was sworn in, we had a big party for her, and she and her family are more patriotic than most people I know who were born here.

The test was not easy, and involved some questions that many of us take for granted.

Yesterday, I left you with a little riddle. Someone who is old enough to remember having Civics Class in Junior High probably got the answer.

In this little Verse from Isaiah we have Three Names (or Titles) of God. He is called Judge, Lawgiver, and King. Maybe I'm just reading into this, but doesn't that bear a striking resemblance to the Three Branches of Government in the United States Constitution?

Judge = The Judicial Branch
Lawgiver = The Legislative branch
King = The Executive Branch.

The Three Branches of the Government was one of the Questions Maria had to answer in her Citizenship Test. It was a totally new concept to her, but she GOT IT!

When I first read this verse many years ago, I was struck by the similarity between the Verse and the Constitution. Since the Founding Fathers were familiar with The Bible as Literature, it is very possible that they got the idea how to run a Country from this very verse.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

He Will Come To Us Like the Spring Rain That Waters The Earth. (Lamentations 3)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 80

To the leader: on Lilies, a Covenant. Of Asaph. A Psalm.

1 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel,
you who lead Joseph like a flock!
You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth
2 before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh.
Stir up your might,
and come to save us!

3 Restore us, O God;
let your face shine, that we may be saved.

4 O Lord God of hosts,
how long will you be angry with your people’s prayers?
5 You have fed them with the bread of tears,
and given them tears to drink in full measure.
6 You make us the scorn* of our neighbours;
our enemies laugh among themselves.

7 Restore us, O God of hosts;
let your face shine, that we may be saved.

8 You brought a vine out of Egypt;
you drove out the nations and planted it.
9 You cleared the ground for it;
it took deep root and filled the land.
10 The mountains were covered with its shade,
the mighty cedars with its branches;
11 it sent out its branches to the sea,
and its shoots to the River.
12 Why then have you broken down its walls,
so that all who pass along the way pluck its fruit?
13 The boar from the forest ravages it,
and all that move in the field feed on it.

14 Turn again, O God of hosts;
look down from heaven, and see;
have regard for this vine,
15 the stock that your right hand planted.*
16 They have burned it with fire, they have cut it down;*
may they perish at the rebuke of your countenance.
17 But let your hand be upon the one at your right hand,
the one whom you made strong for yourself.
18 Then we will never turn back from you;
give us life, and we will call on your name.

19 Restore us, O Lord God of hosts;
let your face shine, that we may be saved.

Great insights in today’s lesson—and they often come in threes.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.
