So “moderately” religious means religious enough to believe in the supernatural, but not religious enough to actually read the Bible, I’m thinking.
Losing a loved one is no easy thing - if “talking to the deceased” helps some people deal with their loss, I have nothing to say against it.
Is praying for deceased loved ones a form of “communicating”? - guilty.

It happened to me, on the fifth anniversary of my father’s death. I was wide awake, in a store aisle actually. Apologies, but I’d rather not give any more details.

I was hoping that a radio for talking to the dead would be around by nose since the movie “The Dead Talk Back” made it to MST3K years ago.

I have had two experiences, both amazing and while I was fully awake, during the day. No one will ever tell me that what I experienced was a fluke or coincidence.

The first time, a friend who had recently died appeared and, as though she had led me somewhere, my great grandmother appeared to me.
She died in 1903 and I obviously never knew her. It was extremely vivid. I knew immediately that it was not a dream, that it was a visitation, as I was sleeping, awakening, and wide awake.
She told me a number of things, one that I am very much like her and, for that reason, she has always been close to me. Her presence stayed with me the entire following day.
A few months later, a girl I hardly knew in high school came. She revealed things.
A few months later, my mother-in-law appeared to me. I dreaded this, even in my sleep, because she had lots of problems and was no fun to deal with. She told me that she had completely misunderstood me and that she loved and respected me. I realized that, despite her problems in her earthly life, she was highly evolved and profoundly good. The visitation was brilliantly lighted, the colors vivid. She looked like herself as knew her, but she was far more beautiful, bright, alive. I loved her.
A few months later my cousin by marriage, a man, appeared in a visitation.
A few months later, my sister appeared to me.
She said: "I knew you'd be here. I've been in the big city in Illinois."
"Stay with me for a while," I said to her.
She replied, "I can't I've got to go. I just wanted to stop here and see you."
Then she left. Somehow I knew she was going somewhere to the southeast, maybe the West Indies, maybe Florida, the Bahamas, or somewhere else.
All of these were visitations. They were not dreams. I knew it at the time. They were like dreams but far more vivid and alive.
I think they occur during sleep because my rational censor is less powerful and I can be more receptive to truth.
I know that I am in touch will all of these people, even though my awareness of it is clouded by some sort of block or preoccupation or more likely confusion, as is my awareness of all things in the afterlife and also in the spiritual realm.
There is no question about any of this in my mind.
