Boston, Mass., Jan 12, 2023 / 15:55 pm Among the latest in an ongoing series of attacks on Catholic churches in the United States, St. Mary Catholic Church in Escondido, California, has been vandalized three times since Christmas.
Father Scott Herrera, the church’s pastor, told CNA Thursday that he believes the vandal, who was caught on security cameras in all three incidents, is the same person.
Herrera said that police notified him that a suspect was apprehended in connection with the vandalism. The suspect’s identity, however, has not been revealed yet to the church.
Herrera said that the man first vandalized the church on Dec. 25, 2022, and damaged a statue of the Virgin Mary and flower vases decorating the sanctuary.
A video of the church’s security footage from the late hours of Christmas Day that was posted online by the church shows a man kicking over flower vases on the church’s property.
The man can then be seen taking a candle and throwing it at a crucifix, damaging it. The video shows the man breaking open a door of the church and walking inside. He is then seen approaching a stopped car on the road. The car can be seen leaving shortly after it was approached by the man.

What a low life Loser. Got nothing better to do on Christmas Day than vandalize a Church. They need to report the name to the public. Name, shame and rightfully blame.

At least nobody was hurt, unlike our brothers and sisters in the faith who reside in Africa or the Middle East. I’m praying the suspect is punished for his crimes and that he repents and turns to Jesus Christ before it’s too late.

We get bits of stories doled out to us like we were behind a plow in Stalin’s USSR being informed that the 6th year of the 5 Year Agricultural Plan is working fabulously.
*On Father Dowling Mysteries the secret identity would be kept from the Tom Bosley priest and in the dark at night all alone, Sister Stephanie “Steve” Oskowski (Tracy Nelson) would be ambushed by a knife wielding raving lunatic.
Why protect the guilty? We can all say “suspect” all day if that will please the government. But let us be a free country with freedom of information.
All this technology that can read the date on a penny a mile away and we still have security cameras that look like this?
GEEZE a Ring door bell camera would have done a better job!!!
My church did the same and did not release the name when a theif stole from the church multiple times.
