My Revolutionary War ancestor served in the Virginia militia and was at Yorktown serving under a man named Haman Critz. Why a presumably Christian family would name their son Haman, I have no idea. Perhaps they opened the Bible and chose the first name they saw without reading the surrounding narrative.

In Asia a not uncommon name for a boy is Rommel. I’ve met two or three Romel Chan/Wan/Ho/Chou’s

I have known a few girls named Jezebel and Delilah.

I always guessed that their parents did not bother reading the stories.
