Good points. But it does not matter what’s “officially preferred” in some document, if it rarely actually happens in a church. EWTN’s mass nicely incorporates many of the parts you mention. Yesterday the priest also sang the Gospel. Of course, they do have outstanding musicians.

But it does matter. There's a big difference between a legal barrier to something and a barrier that is more a matter of institutional inertia or cowardice.

I'm not saying those barriers are always easy to break down, but they can be broken. Really all you need ate a group of laypeople who are motivated and a pastor willing to step out and take the risk.

EWTN sings chant ordinaries, but they don't chant the propers (unless they've changed recently). I think they should.
