Christopher Columbus Murals Covered with Native American Tapestries at Notre Dame

In addition to Columbus, Queen Isabella, venerated as a Servant of God in the Catholic Church, was covered up with a tapestry depicting a turtle and two rats

The University of Notre Dame administration has now covered the school’s 12 murals depicting the life of Christopher Columbus, which generated protests and petitions from Native American groups on campus.

The 12 tapestries showing Native American symbols and wildlife native to Indiana and are now placed directly over the Columbus murals. The Native American symbols belong to the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi, who invited the religious congregation that founded Notre Dame to today’s campus.

The tapestries show turtles, rabbits, foxes, rats, bears, eagles and fish, as well as a variety of plant life. The Native American borders consist of both “natural and geometric motifs of the Pokagon Band,” according to the university.

In some places, the edges of the original Columbus murals can still be seen. They were commissioned in 1884 by the founder of Notre Dame, Rev. Edward Sorin, and painted by Vatican artist Luigi Gregori. The murals depict Columbus as both a Catholic and American hero, and were meant to inspire patriotism in the immigrant Catholic community that populated Notre Dame.

And if Columbus had never “sailed the Ocean Blue,” the New World would have still been found by Pedro Cabral of Portugal.

And only eight years later. It’s ironic, that Columbus a man who changed the histories of at least four continents could have never lived and history would have turned out pretty much the same.

Portugal was concentrating on the prize at the time, a sea route to Indies/China. The Spanish would have gotten here pretty quickly and after 700 years of the Reconquista were uniquely prepared to take on conquering a continent or two in the name of God. Glory and Gold were good too.

Let's just be done with it and re-name the University as we must re-name the Redskins. No more silly pretensions. Notre Squaw or whatever will be a fine school, I am sure, just like all the others.

And another one bites the dust. And another bites, and another one bites, and another one bites the dust. Good bye, Notre Dame!

The Cherokees even had their own slave revolt. People don’t believe me when I say the tribes of Oklahoma joined the SOUTH in the Civil war.

Notre Dame is now a Marxist center of religious subversion and PCism.

They have hired known Marxists including a leading Hanoi Lobby activist, as professors, just hired Peter Buttigieg to teach there (nuff said, esp. since his father was an avowed Marxist - see www.keywiki.org, “Marxism Revisited” page for his name on the list of Advisors), and their football coach just got pummeled because students ran onto the field when they won a football game last week (no social distancing - they must be executed if they don’t get tested for COVID 19 before being allowed on campus - I kid you not), etc.

There is a lot more red and PC rot in Notre Dame than there was in the ages old Cathedral of Notre Dame that burned and collapsed in Paris.

Never heard of the Pokémon tribe of Indians. Have to call my granddaughters who are experts on Pokeman to see if they really existed.

I think that this is a created tribe just to stick it to Columbus, as in “Poke the Man” in the eye. /sarc

Suppose Europeans hadn't "discovered" North and South America until a LOT later, after figuring out jet aircraft, armored vehicles, Gatling guns, napalm, etc.?

Sooner or later the "discovery" was going to happen.

The entire hullabaloo by native Americans is too much - after all, different native tribes fought each other, conquered, enslaved and took over land from others. They didn't see themselves as part of a "native American" race --> they saw themselves as part of the race of their tribe.

Furthermore, we can condemn the killing of native American civilians in the 1700s and 1800s, but the deaths of 90% of the Americans in the 1500s was due to diseases inadvertently brought across by the Old worlders

the gatlin guns, napalm etc wouldn't have killed nearly as many Americans as the germs of Smallpox etc. did

There are no “native” Americans. The Indians might have got here well more before the rest of us but they’re still immigrants.

And none of the Indians were the original settlers of the lands they inhabited when Europeans first reached this continent. There had been wave after wave of arrivals and every region of North America was conquered and reconquered (or settled and then abandoned, or settled and then they all died) dozens of times over the centuries. So if white Europeans stole their lands, they were just stealing something their ancestors had stolen from other Indians.

I was referring to the Real Pocahontas from Virginia who ‘saved’ Captain John Smith, NOT fauxhantus, the white senator.
