Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds

.

Exodus 2

The Birth of Moses

2 Now a man of the tribe of Levi married a Levite woman, 2 and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months. 3 But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket[a] for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile. 4 His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him.

5 Then Pharaoh’s daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her attendants were walking along the riverbank. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her female slave to get it. 6 She opened it and saw the baby. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him. “This is one of the Hebrew babies,” she said.

7 Then his sister asked Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?”

8 “Yes, go,” she answered. So the girl went and got the baby’s mother. 9 Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you.” So the woman took the baby and nursed him. 10 When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh’s daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses,[b] saying, “I drew him out of the water.”

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)

Pharaoh's Daughter is another heroic woman in Scripture, who risks everything to save one baby's life.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Years ago, I saw three women standing on a sidewalk in Coral Springs, FL as I was riding by. No matter what time of day I happened to pass this certain spot, there they were, still as can be, in the same spot. Maybe they weren't there all the time, but they just seemed to be there as I sped by on my motorcycle. Finally, my curiosity could stand it no longer. I slowed down and looked closer. There was a rhythmic sound coming from the women, and it kind of synchronized with my idling engine. The were praying the Rosary.

While the Rosary is not my particular tradition, I thought it was nice that the ladies were praying. But why were they praying here, on a sidewalk in Coral Springs?

I looked at the building directly in front of the women and saw a little sign in the window. It was an Abortion Facility. I said a prayer too, smiled and waved at the ladies, and went on my way.

Bitter feminists who hate the Bible should take another look at Exodus. The first two chapters are filled with heroic women! Shiphrah and Puah saved lives at the risk of their own. Jochabed and Miriam risked arrest and probably death by saving a male Hebrew child. Pharaoh's Daughter risked (at least!) profound disapproval by taking the Hebrew infant into her home. And, unlike the movie "The Ten Commandments", there was no scheming, disloyal slave woman who would betray the princess. That character was a Hollywood invention. The Women of Exodus were like the Praying Ladies of Coral Springs. The risked social disapproval and perhaps even arrest for their daily vigil. Still, I believe their prayers are being answered, as we now have the most Pro-Life President in our Nation's History, who is nominating pro-life judges, and even speaking at pro-life events. God works in mysterious ways!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

Oh goodness...I didn’t put in the punch line!

Here it is:

Some folks say I am brave for riding a motorcycle.
I say that Shpihrah and Puah, Jochabed and Miriam, Pharaoh’s Daughter, and The Coral Springs Prayer Ladies are braver than I’ll ever be!

Psalm 13

To the leader. A Psalm of David.

1 How long, O Lord? Will you forget me for ever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long must I bear pain* in my soul,
and have sorrow in my heart all day long?
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?

3 Consider and answer me, O Lord my God!
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death,
4 and my enemy will say, ‘I have prevailed’;
my foes will rejoice because I am shaken.

5 But I trusted in your steadfast love;
my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the Lord,
because he has dealt bountifully with me.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"Pharaoh's Daughters Find the Infant Moses"
Nicholas Poussin (1594-1665)

__
there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.

And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and
put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink.
And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him. And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.

And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children.

Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?

And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child's mother.

And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the women took the child, and nursed it.

And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.

And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.

And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?

And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.

Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.

Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.

And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.

And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day?

And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.

And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.

And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.

And she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land.

And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.

And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.
