Those verses are always taken one-sidedly..

Yes, wives - let your husband drive the car, but husbands- be always willing to DIE for your wives. Love her THAT much.

Would you rather feel you “have” to let someone you supposedly love lead or be the one called to die for your partner?

You are exactly right. The expectation for wives is described in Ephesians 5:22-24, but the expectations for the husband are even higher, as described in Ephesians 5:25-33:

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing[b] her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body. 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”[c] 32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

Wives are called to defer to their husbands in some manners, but every decision that the husband makes must be for the good of his wife. This was a revolutionary teaching in the first century A.D.

My husband and I have a true biblical marriage. I know he would die for us, kill for us, that he always puts our children and me first in every decision. I am blessed to call him my husband and he has made me immeasurably happy for nearly 30 years.

You better believe I would follow him through hell fire if he said go.

I was very picky and chose wisely; I chose a strong, loving godly man who could lead. Foolish women who make poor choices have issues with submitting because they chose a man that is too weak to lead, to selfish to love them completely, too immature to make wise decisions for the family. In short, they don’t trust their own judgment, so they make fun of women who do as a defense mechanism.

I feel sorry for them.

Yes they are. The next line is more demanding... “Husbands, love your wife as Christ loved the Church”.... Christ went to the cross for the church. I would for my wife, but loving someone that sacrificially is a big ask. Wives were not commanded to love their husbands...

The crown of authority is a crown of thorns.
