Bishop (Barron) Hosts Establishment Journalists To Bash Rising Catholic Media

Los Angeles Auxiliary Bishop Robert Barron hosted a July 29 invite-only meeting of party journalists to talk about “disturbing trends in the online Catholic world.”

The meeting of those disturbed was about the rise of a “radical Traditionalist” movement, writes Christopher White on the dissenting NcrOnline.org (August 3).

White previously worked for CruxNow.com which is flooded with Bishop Barron advertisement. Present on the call were America Media (Jesuits), Catholic News Agency (EWTN), Catholic News Service (US bishops), CruxNow.com (sponsored also by Barron), and Our Sunday Visitor (U.S. National Weekly Newspaper).

The meeting also spoke about the phenomenon of tabloid news in the Catholic press. White describes the traditionalists more or less correctly as often young Catholics who prefer the traditional liturgy and subscribe to more conservative political beliefs and religious practices.

In recent weeks, Barron was criticised by Catholic media for defending indefensible parts of Vatican II. Barron reacted by saying that he preferred the online pushback of atheists to certain Catholics. He complained during the meeting that three full-time staff members spend their whole workdays deleting “inappropriate” comments levelled at him.

Bishop Barron has been a regular on EWTN radio and tv for years, since the days when he was still Father Barron.

Think about the hubris implied in this statement.

Would Bishop Barron care to dialogue with or publicly debate these “radicals”, instead of guys like Ben Shapiro?

Nice to see that the Church, as exemplified by this person, hasn’t learned anything over the past 55+ years. Think of the irony here. Young people, for whom all the changes were made, reject the Novus Ordo in favor of the True Mass, which they never were taught or attended.

Truth will out. God will not be mocked.

Barron reacted by saying that he preferred the online pushback of atheists to certain Catholics.

He pointed out where it was obvious that at least the atheists had more intellectual honesty than the Catholic twitter mob looking to pick a fight regardless of the Calumny they engaged in.....

Translation: you expect the atheist to attack anything Catholic...

I am, thanks be to God, NOT so much exposed to the internecine warfare in the Church to know for sure what Bishop Barron is referring to. I know the general outlines and, probably, some of the players, but I am so repelled by online vituperation that I tend to turn it all off.

So "I anathematize you, spiritual booger" is not part of my daily (or hourly) world. Though I know its out there.

What comes to mind is Harry Truman's great line. Some political enthusiast yelled at a campaign rally, "Give em hell,Harry!" and he answered, "Nah, I give 'em the truth, and they think it's hell."

It seems, though, that what Barron's complaining about is not the online Catholic new media "trading posts" but the "Indians" -- in other words, the Catholics. The people who turn up in his combox. That's not Ann Barnhardt. That's Joe Q. Catholic.

Now YOUR thoughts, Condoleezza?

Don’t forget me, ebb tide, as you know and disapprove of, I like to hear what Bishop Barron has to say. Although 3 staff people deleting emails? Why not get some screening software?

Actually, I wasn’t aware you were member of the Barron cult.

Not that I’m surprised.
