(Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday declined to lift a 50-person limit on religious services adopted by Nevada's Democratic governor in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
By a 5-4 vote, the justices denied a request by Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley in rural Nevada for an interim order that would have allowed it to host services for about 90 congregants.
Chief Justice John Roberts, a conservative, voted with the court's four liberal members.

Do it anyway.
Are the 50 person limits, arbitrary as they are, on everything statewide? If so, the church was pretty much screwed.
And just that fast, the Constitution is meaningless. The door is open to shutting down the rest of the First Amendment. And the Second.
Dread Pirate Roberts strikes again.
The guy is hopeless, utterly hopeless.
Ann Coulter warned us about him when Bush nominated the snake. Umpire my ass.
Roberts, the Bush conservative, with the libs, again.
not if you light buildings on fire.
Roberts has to go!
Roberts was really a wolf in sheep's clothing. Walmart can have more than 50 in their stores but not a church.
I live not that far from Dayton and it's a very small, rural community. Surprised other, larger churches didn't join their fight.
More here...
This doesn’t sound good, especially the refusal to explain the decision.
Exactly. And I have posted elsewhere that he must be impeached.
the left loves to call Roberts a conservative, even after he has tilted the court to the left. Imagine if he really was not a conservative!
.....”Chief Justice John Roberts, a conservative,....”
...I think we should start using a new name for people
like this guy.....CINO....Conservative In Name Only...
what a disappointment he has turned out to be.....
Roberts strikes again.
Thanks Bush.
I agree. Do it anyway, but I’ll go even further to say it’s time for the true church to start going underground. There will be no other way to worship as we are supposedly guaranteed to be able to do.
How many churches are going to go bankrupt? I’ve known that religious persecution was coming, but I didn’t see it done in this way. Its a start.
Why aren’t most churchgoers just telling the govt to stuff it? Some have, but most seem to cower.
Attend church...in any number YOU choose.
A 5-4 vote. There are 4 Liberals and 4 Conservatives and one flip flopper on SCOTUS...but wait the flip flopper said all judges are apolitical didn’t he.
Sounds like time to render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s and unto God that which is God’s. Civil Disobedience in not forsaking oneself of gathering together in worship.
Will one worship the state or worship Almighty God?.......
Call their bluff. The next step should be to hold very quiet pop up religious services in large Walmarts and casinos.
No confrontation. No hymns. Maybe even done via Zoom, with one person talking perhaps and the others socially distanced but physically together. “Shopping” of course, but also all watching together on Zoom. Everyone use ear buds so that no non-participating shopper is inconvenienced.
Just show up. Do it at an off hour, so that the Walmart or casino would otherwise be nearly empty. Wear masks. Etc. Behave in every respect, follow every Walmart/casino rule, do this with a full and compassionate heart, keep asking WWJD, and so forth, except that there is in-house Zoom worship. Find a way to worship together. See what happens. Accept the consequences but make them public.
