PROFITING FROM PROVERBS - 7/13/2020
King James Bible | 7/13/2020 | pilgrimsprogress

“A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just” (Proverbs 13:22).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
We have a lot of what is called “first generation Christians” in our churches. These are folks that did not grow up in a Christian home and knew nothing of the Gospel of salvation growing up, even though they might have gone to church every week. Their grandparents were not saved, or if they were, they did not live it so that their own children were saved. As a result, they raised a family outside of grace, knowing nothing about the free gift of eternal life that comes from trusting in the risen Saviour.

TODAY’S VERSE:

“A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just” (Proverbs 13:22).

“A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children,” both physically and spiritually. Do you know why? Because he doesn’t use it up for himself. But why doesn’t it just say, “for his children?” Well, it is obvious that if you raise your own children up right, they will raise their children up right as well.

One of the greatest prayers a man can make is that his whole house will be saved, and that his children faithfully live their lives for God. It is a real blessing to know that, as we prepare to go to our heavenly home in our old age, that there is a third generation or even a fourth generation of believers to carry on the truth of God’s Word to this wicked and sinful world.

So, the inheritance you leave is going to go at least to the second generation, because if we “train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). That is a great and precious promise.

“. . . and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just,” God will eventually give the riches of the sinner to the righteous and to the just people.

“And Judah also shall fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the heathen round about shall be gathered together, gold, and silver, and apparel, in great abundance” (Zechariah 14:14).

“For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him” (Luke 19:26). This was because they didn’t use it right, didn’t use it properly.

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
