AP: Catholic Church Lobbied for Taxpayer Funds, Got $1.4B

NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. Roman Catholic Church used a special and unprecedented exemption from federal rules to amass at least $1.4 billion in taxpayer-backed coronavirus aid, with many millions going to dioceses that have paid huge settlements or sought bankruptcy protection because of clergy sexual abuse cover-ups.

The church’s haul may have reached -- or even exceeded -- $3.5 billion, making a global religious institution with more than a billion followers among the biggest winners in the U.S. government’s pandemic relief efforts, an Associated Press analysis of federal data released this week found.

Houses of worship and faith-based organizations that promote religious beliefs aren’t usually eligible for money from the U.S. Small Business Administration. But as the economy plummeted and jobless rates soared, Congress let faith groups and other nonprofits tap into the Paycheck Protection Program, a $659 billion fund created to keep Main Street open and Americans employed.

By aggressively promoting the payroll program and marshaling resources to help affiliates navigate its shifting rules, Catholic dioceses, parishes, schools and other ministries have so far received approval for at least 3,500 forgivable loans, AP found.

The Archdiocese of New York, for example, received 15 loans worth at least $28 million just for its top executive offices. Its iconic St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Fifth Avenue was approved for at least $1 million.

Nancy Pelosi was out chumming this virus at the get go.. Nancy played political games with this nation, by holding a Soviet style impeachment. Waited until January 15 to send those articles to the Senate. There is no way she did not know what was brewing in Wuhan, China on that date.. in large part her acts and inaction caused the need for bailouts... Mighty catholic of her.....

Great, when I’m Bishop I’d summon her to repent of her sins.

But the fact that Nancy is completely evil, who God will not allow to escape justice, does not mean that Catholic Schools should be shutting down or Catholic Hospitals.

The Heavenly Father will hold the only court that counts... Repentance means more than a visit to the local confessional... some sins are not forgiven here on God’s green earth... and a bailout only covers a badly infected wound...

“The church’s haul may have reached — or even exceeded — $3.5 billion.”

Drop in the bucket. LA Church used 1.1 billion for lawsuits alone and needs 10 billion for minimal repairs of its 300 churches.

The problem is that the Catholic Church, especially Catholic Schools, started accepting government checks in the 1970’s, thanks to Hesburgh at Notre Dame. As a result, the Church has watered down its teaching and chased away a lot of donors.

Yes, you’re a bigot.
I know it hurts for you to admit it.

And Nancy Pelosi is not a Catholic.
She is a democrat. You can’t be both.

Actually, I have no emotion Over being called a bigot.. The accusation gives only the state of mind of the accuser.. God will ‘judge’.. every soul, the good, the bad, and the ugly... As is Written, all souls belong to the Lord.. And finally. Isaiah 5:20..
