PROFITING FROM PROVERBS - 7/7/2020
King James Bible | 7/7/2020 | pilgrimsprogress

“Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house, In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night" (Proverbs 7:8-9).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
Twilight is not black and dark. Twilight is still half-light, right? So, it's early evening and then in the evening and then later in the black and dark night. Well, during the church age the night is far spent, and the day is at hand.

TODAY’S VERSE:

“Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house, In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night" (Proverbs 7:8-9).

In verse 8, this kid is on a particular path, “passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house.” And this was a wicked woman in verse 9, “In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night.”

Early in the church age the Roman Catholic Church rose up. It was the Roman Catholic Church by 440 or 500 A.D., but it was there present in philosophy and all the dregs of it were all present as early as 200 and 300 AD. It wreaked havoc from its earliest days. Don’t you get tired of hearing stuff in revisionist history that says how the monasteries helped people do agriculture, and where would we be without the Roman Catholic Church? Well, you'd have life if it weren't for them. What's commonly not recognized is that the Roman Catholic Church passed the world into the dark ages. Those dark ages were spiritual blackness.

People were so under bondage to ignorance and the Catholic Church had the Bible, but they kept the people away from it. They were under such bondage that they didn't have sense enough to even wash their hands. You want to know why the bubonic plague, the black plague, went through entire nations? You do realize that close to one half the British Isles was wiped out during the black plagues.

The people didn’t even have the sense to take a bath more than once a year. Or enough sense not to bury bodies where the rats couldn't eat them. All they had do was read one book of the Bible to find out you needed to be clean, but they didn't have a Bible. They didn't have a Bible because somebody took their Bibles away from them and told them if they read the Bible, they were going to be tortured death. The RCC passed this world into 1500 years of utter blackness.

“In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night,” the Roman Catholic Church is one of the great and sinister characters that's killed tens of millions of people and damned billions more people to hell. In verse 8, we do learn one other thing.

“Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,” her house is down the street and he's walking toward her house. We don't know if he was heading toward her house intentionally. We don't know if that's the case. What it does show us is that sometimes people ask the wrong questions. People ask, “Well, what's wrong with it?” And they want a short yes or no answer, but it's not a question of what's wrong with it . . . it's, “Where does it lead?”

It’s not an issue of whether you're in sin right now; the issue is if you stay where you are, if you go the way that you are going, it's going to lead you somewhere you might not want to go.

Now, there's nothing wrong with going in a package store and buying a can of pop, but what keeps you from buying some of those other bottles they sell in there? The issue is not that it's wrong to buy a Coke from a bottle shop. The issue is you keep doing that habitually and one day you may buy something else. How many times can you walk near the viper’s nest and not be bit? It’s best to avoid the temptation altogether.

There’s a ton of things like that, folks, and a lot of times even in our relationships and that kind of thing you say well there's nothing wrong with this or there's nothing wrong with that. People that should know better keep hanging out with someone that they know is not what they should be, and it’s just not wrong to be their friend. Well, you could argue that it's not wrong to be his friend. And you could also argue that it is wrong to be their friend. The question is, where does being their friend lead? Being a bad man's friend doesn't make bad men better, it usually makes good men worse.

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.

Complete nonsense.

They didn't have bibles, because bibles cost the equivalent of two years wages for an ordinary person, because they were written on parchment, instead of papyrus.

Why weren't they written on papyrus?

Because about 650, the Muslims conquered Egypt, and Muslim pirates destroyed the Mediterranean trade. No more papyrus for Europe. Illiteracy and decay followed.

The Church did the most to save what they could.

I’m sorry that the God you serve is powerless to preserve the Word that He lifts above His very name. All over the land there were little Bible-believing churches that had copies of the word that they shared and copied amongst themselves . . . and men that were willing to take the effort to memorize the Bible and carry it from generation to generation.

Folks that consider themselves to be their own final authority on the things of God usually do not have much faith in the Final Authority at all.

Well, you are certainly welcome to your own opinions, just don’t assume that you can dictate to me what mine should be.

God bless.

To whom are you referring?

Your post seems to be a direct example of the above mentality.
